Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Advisor, Emergency Management & Preparedness, the Business Continuity Officer will take a lead role in the development and administration of the University-wide business continuity program, including the overall business continuity program framework. Working closely with academic, administrative, and operational units, the Business Continuity Officer supports the development and maintenance of departmental continuity plans as well as the university\xe2\x80\x99s overall continuity plan. The university\'s Business Continuity Program, which defines critical university functions and strategies for the continuation of these activities in the event of a disruption, operates in conjunction with the Emergency Management Program and Plan, which addresses emergency mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as a subject matter expert for the establishment and maintenance of the University\xe2\x80\x99s Business Continuity Framework founded on applicable standards, principles, and industry best practice.
  • Develop foundational documents, templates and worksheets to support business continuity planning. Ensure documentation and guidelines are updated as standards and principles evolve according to university policy and industry standards.
  • Work closely with academic, administrative, and operational units to identify and catalogue their critical functions. Provide guidance and advice to academic, administrative, and operational units on the development, maintenance, and evaluation of their continuity plans.
  • Compile completed departmental plans to understand the impacts and the recovery of the department and the University as a whole.
  • Works closely with the Senior Advisor to develop and maintain the university\xe2\x80\x99s central business continuity plan, including updating, publishing, and aligning the plan with McGill operations. Ensures that the updated plan is distributed to emergency management team members on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate the revision schedule and track all departmental and university-wide business continuity plans to ensure they remain current and updated through regular follow-up with departmental business continuity leads and campus partners.
  • Design and develop the business continuity training program and related content. Facilitate continuity program training sessions.
  • Ensure the effectiveness and maintenance of all continuity plans through simulations, exercises, and other testing/evaluation methods. Participate in the planning and execution of emergency exercises and tabletop scenarios to provide key responders and personnel with the opportunity to practice their training and evaluate their plans.
  • Support the development of awareness programs promoting business continuity and emergency management.
  • Prepare update on business continuity program activities for the unit\xe2\x80\x99s annual report to senior administration.
  • Support the Emergency Management team during emergencies and upon activation of the University\xe2\x80\x99s emergency response structure.
  • Liaise routinely with the campus community and report all issues or concerns brought forward regarding business continuity or emergency management.
  • Troubleshoots, assesses and resolves problems using specialized skills and technical knowledge. Provides advice to unit members on problem resolution. Develops and implements procedures and/or controls to enhance the operation of the unit.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the department/unit by keeping abreast of new developments and trends in the field of business continuity and emergency management.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Strong report writing and project management skills.

Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, work both autonomously and as part of a team, and deliver a high volume of superior quality work.

Ability to work simultaneously on a range of projects requiring different skills and resources.

Proven experience working independently, with minimal guidance.

Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.

Proven ability to prepare and deliver presentations and training to a diverse group of stakeholders.

Poise and ability to act calmly and competently in high-pressure, high-stress situations.

Excellent written and communication skills in both English and French.

Ability and competence to work in a Microsoft environment.

Professional designation or certification (eg. ABCP, CBCP, MBCP, ISO 22301 lead implementer) an asset.First Aid and CPR certification an asset. Incident Command System training an asset.

Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor\'s Degree 3 Years Related Experience with Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree / DEC III 5 Years Related Experience with DEC III

Annual Salary: (MPEX Grade 05) $65,500.00 - $81,870.00 - $98,240.00
