Job Title: Business Analyst - Estates Strategy (Contract)
Client: Major Canadian Bank (Personal Banking Division - Big 5)
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid - 3-4 days onsite)
Contract Length: 6 months (with potential extension)
Pay Rate: $75 -$85 an hour INC
Legally eligible to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident only).
About the Client
Our client is one of Canada's Big 5 banks, with a Personal Banking division committed to delivering trusted advice and innovative solutions. The Estates Strategy team is standing up a new enterprise-wide project focused on estate planning and settlement workflows. This work is at the early stages, with executive sponsorship, and will have significant regulatory, compliance, and operational impact across multiple lines of business.
Role Overview
The Business Analyst will support the launch of the Estates Planning and Settlement program. This is a greenfield initiative requiring someone who can navigate across Personal Banking, Wealth, Trust Services, Risk, Legal, Operations, and Technology. The role emphasizes requirements gathering, journey mapping, governance support, and regulatory alignment.
This is not a derivative/trading settlement role -- it is focused entirely on estate settlement and planning in a retail banking and wealth context.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with business sponsors to define requirements for estate planning, settlement, and beneficiary referral processes.
Facilitate journey mapping workshops and document current vs. future state workflows.
Gather requirements from multiple competing lines of business and help prioritize top pain points.
Support governance activities including scope management, agendas, decision tracking, and prioritization registers.
Collaborate with data and compliance teams to ensure alignment with regulatory, SOX, and privacy requirements.
Contribute analysis to the multi-year estates strategy business case.
Provide structured documentation (BRDs, process maps, intake templates).
Work in an Agile environment, adapting priorities as new business needs arise.
Key Skills & Competencies
Direct experience with estate planning or settlement in banking, wealth, or trust services strongly preferred.
If estate expertise is unavailable, strong BA with regulatory/enterprise program experience will be considered.
Demonstrated ability to work across multiple lines of business with competing priorities.
Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements tied to estates (probate, wills, AML/KYC, privacy).
Strong stakeholder facilitation, requirements gathering, and documentation skills.
Proficiency with tools such as Visio, Excel, Power BI/Tableau, JIRA/Confluence.
Experience supporting projects in Agile environments.
Excellent communication skills; ability to adapt messaging for executives and frontline teams.
Process & Next Steps
Hybrid onsite requirement: 3-4 days per week at Toronto office.
