POSTION SUMMARY:



South Essex Community Council (SECC) is seeking a reliable, safety-minded

Transit Driver

to provide accessible and courteous transportation services for seniors and adults with physical disabilities. Operating a wheelchair-accessible vehicle throughout the Essex County and Wheatley, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety, comfort, and dignity of every passenger. Under the direction of CHSS Department Coordinator, the Transit Driver will assume the following duties and responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:



Operate a wheelchair-accessible transit vehicle safely and professionally in accordance with all traffic laws and SECC policies. Assist clients with boarding, disembarking, and securing mobility devices such as wheelchairs and walkers. Conduct daily vehicle inspections and safety checks; report and document any mechanical or maintenance issues. Maintain cleanliness and organization of both the interior and exterior of the vehicle. Ensure adequate on-board supplies are available. Collect payments and maintain accurate trip and payment records. Represent SECC with professionalism and compassion; provide friendly, respectful service at all times. Respond to client concerns or complaints, and report feedback to the Department Coordinator for resolution. Provide assistance with scheduling and dispatch, if needed. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:



Valid Ontario Class

B, C, or F

driver's license with an excellent driving record. Minimum of

3 years' experience

operating a bus or similar vehicle; a

Letter of Experience

is required. Current

Driver's Abstract

(must be provided upon request).

Vulnerable Sector Police Check

required prior to start. Strong familiarity with the roadways in Windsor-Essex County, especially Leamington, Kingsville, and Wheatley. Physically capable of lifting, pushing wheelchairs, and assisting passengers as needed. Experience and interest in working with older adults and individuals with disabilities. Strong interpersonal skills, with a commitment to providing respectful and inclusive service. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Knowledge of and compliance with Ontario Ministry of Transportation regulations and SECC Safe Driving policies.

SALARY AND HOURS:



0-23 hours per week.

Drivers must be available to work evening and weekend shifts as scheduled.



$25.22/hr, Salary in accordance with CUPE 4523 Collective Agreement
