Position Summary



The building services worker provides person centered care to residents to promote the comfort, safety, and quality of life of the residents of Finlandia Nursing Home/Finlandia Village. Building Services, under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, is responsible for performing general maintenance and repair for Finlandia Village. Building Services also performs basic repairs and maintenance on the mechanical operating systems found within Finlandia Village.

Some Key Responsibilities



Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines and equipment

Ensure units are ready for move in

Troubleshoot, install, and repair plumbing fixtures, piping, and related equipment

Conduct general carpentry functions such as constructing shelves and repairing furniture and other repairs

Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment

Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas

Participate in various aspects of building maintenance requirements, including updates and new constructions

Set priorities for preventive maintenance work orders, maintenance requisitions and scheduled work

Maintain adequate supplies for the maintenance department

Assist in the orientation and training of staff

Complete all necessary reports and records related to the department as required

Perform regular workplace inspections to determine areas that need maintenance or repair as outlined in PM Worx

Ensure that any required maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely manner

Prepare, paint and decorate interior and exterior surfaces as required

Fix and repair drywall

Operate grounds-keeping power equipment such as plows, snow blowers, lawn mowers and maintain external property

Perform minor construction work, e.g., dismantling and erecting walls, finishing carpentry work, pouring concrete, etc.

Perform necessary work to open clogged sewer lines

Maintain an adequate supply of hot water at the correct temperature

Initiate safety concerns and makes judgment on the best methods of completing tasks

Perform basic maintenance and repairs on the various mechanical operating systems found at Finlandia Village, including furnace systems, air conditioning systems, etc.

Inspect the premises for burnt out light bulbs - ensure these are replaced immediately

Change furnace and air conditioning filters as needed

Maintain fire, carbon monoxide, smoke and other safety systems within the Village

Replace broken windows, repair doors, door locks and closets, install/replace window blinds, etc.

Maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures PM Worx

Evacuate building in the event of an emergency

Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications



Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent

Finnish speaking skill is considered an asset

An acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check verified within the past six months

2-step TB test within the past six months

Driver's license required

Physical Demands



Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, over 50 lbs. use lifting device such as dolly's and jacks

Physically demanding; combination of sitting, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling bending, crouching, and kneeling

Ability to climb heights and use ladders
