Department summary Engineering & Operations (Building Operations) provides comprehensive 24-hour support maintaining, operating, and monitoring all key institutional infrastructure and building systems. Position summary The Building Security Systems (BSS) Supervisor leads a diverse team of Locksmiths and Security System Technicians while managing the day-to-day activities within this shop. As an integral part of the Building Security Systems Shop, the Building Security Systems Supervisor is accountable for all maintenance and projects related to Building Security Systems across the various University of Alberta campuses (including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, emergency notification, intercom as well as supporting network infrastructure). The BSS Supervisor is also charged with promoting key maintenance objectives, identifying projects, and ensuring that the day to day needs of this team are met. Duties
  • Assign tasks to staff and contractors. Ensure that all staff are working safely, adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Schedule individual and shop workloads.
  • Facilitating cross training activities for all staff.
  • Monitors systems operations to ensure they are fully operational.
  • Coordinates with field personnel for the repair and maintenance of existing.
  • Provides technical support to operations staff to resolve complex operational issues
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an Engineering or Computer Technology Diploma or Degree program
  • Journeyperson Locksmith would be considered an asset.
  • "Member-In-Good-Standing" status with a Security Organization (i.e. ASIS).
  • Current professional designation (i.e.. APP, CPP, PSP) is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with door hardware and lock material.
  • Knowledge of automatic door openers and their maintenance requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of different building security systems (hardware and software) and the programming of same in the unique product specific language.
