Working with the Principals and other team members, our interns have an opportunity to explore careers in Building Science Engineering through working with more senior engineers with the preparation of engineering reports, specifications, and drawings of mid-rise and high-rise residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. The successful candidate will also be provided the opportunity to go to site regularly for building assessment and construction review.
Our building sciences department works on a variety of projects including building envelop, restoration, infrastructure and special projects, focusing on existing buildings.
In this role, you will:
Provide technical support to various team members by assisting in the investigation, report, design development and site review phases of a variety of building science projects.
Perform field investigations, which include monitoring progress according to specifications, and conformity to building codes and standards
Participate in field reviews throughout the construction process, and prepare site review reports and construction review reports
Conduct condition survey assessments through the testing and evaluation of building envelope systems
Prepare construction Working Drawings, Specifications and Terms of Reference
Provide general technical and administrative support to the Building Science team
Deliver multiple small projects, from beginning to end, with supervision
Uses initiative and judgment to assist in resolving problems, interpreting engineering specifications, investigating design and field engineering difficulties
Skills/abilities:
3rd or 4th year student preferred, currently enrolled in an applied science or engineering post-secondary program
Technical knowledge of building codes and standards preferred
Project management skills with the ability to work with a design team and work on multiple projects at the same time
Excellent communication and organizational skills; including technical writing
Computer literate and proficient in the use of relevant computer applications, including developed skills in Word and Excel.
Access to a reliable vehicle with a valid Ontario Driver's License for travel to client sites
Willingness to work on site and deal with other professionals
May be required to work at heights or in confined spaces.
