Cochrane is seeking a skilled and dedicated Building Operator II (Electrician) to join our Facilities Management team. This is a hands-on role with a wide variety of tasks--no two days are the same. You'll be part of a small, collaborative team responsible for the maintenance of 30+ Town-owned buildings. One moment you might be fixing an electrical plug in the morning, and by the afternoon, you're patching and painting a wall at a completely different location. We're looking for someone who thrives on variety, enjoys hands-on maintenance work, and is confident handling electrical systems and components in commercial settings. Responsibilities

As a Building Operator II, you'll ensure the safe, efficient operation of Town facilities through hands-on maintenance and repair. Guided by the Canadian Electrical Code, STANDATA, and the Alberta Building Code, your work will focus on:

Testing, troubleshooting, installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical assets Performing preventative maintenance, daily inspections, and responding to service calls Handling minor HVAC and plumbing repairs, painting, and furniture installations Coordinating and reviewing contractor work and quotes Maintaining tools, equipment, and inventory Completing documentation, reports, and purchase orders Ensuring compliance with safety standards, codes, and Town policies

Qualifications

Required

Journeyperson Electrician Certificate with Red Seal from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial electrical work. Combination of education and experience may be considered Aptitude in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, construction, and security systems Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, STANDATA, Alberta Building Code, and Life & Safety regulations Strong customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills Familiarity with building maintenance methods, materials, and equipment Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, and role-specific software) Ability to prioritize and adapt to a changing pace and environment RCMP Advanced Reliability Security Clearance (10-year background check) Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License

Preferred

3-5 years of experience in building operations and maintenance Experience in a municipal or public sector environment Certifications: Aerial Platform Training, WHMIS, Fire Extinguisher, Standard First Aid & CPR

Physical Effort

This role requires continuous or moderate physical effort, including:

Standing, walking, bending, and working at heights Repetitive lifting (up to 25 kg), pushing/pulling carts Extended periods of walking and working alone

Work Environment

Exposure to controlled chemicals, mechanical fluids, and equipment malfunction Work performed across various locations with occasional adverse conditions Participation in a rotating on-call schedule (evenings and weekends) Must be comfortable working independently and responding within 30 minutes of Cochrane
