The museum interprets our province\'s industrial history through exhibits and programming. The museum property includes a 78,000 square foot main building, as well as a pumphouse and train station.About Our OpportunityThe Building Operator 3 is responsible for carrying out the daily operation and maintenance of the Museum of Industry. Working directly with colleagues at the Department of Public Works, as well as contractors and vendors, the Building Operator 3 ensures smooth operation of the building and building systems. The Building Operator 3 will perform highly diversified duties to ensure that all mechanical, electrical and architectural systems perform and operate efficiently and properly in order to provide a safe, secure, effective and efficient work environment.Duties include managing Building Automation Software, completing minor carpentry, mechanical, and electrical repairs. The Building Operator 3 is the primary point of contact for museum staff, with the critical role of understanding their needs; managing key relationships; and keeping colleagues informed about the operations of their building(s), the status of projects, and problem resolution issues.The Building Technician reports to the Manager, Museum of Industry.Primary Accountabilities

  • Coordinates, supervises, and documents regularly scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance inspections building equipment, including boilers, chillers, air handling units, pumps, exhaust fans; safety equipment such as Fire Alarms, Sprinkler Systems, and Fire Extinguishers and on the building\'s electrical systems including, but not limited to access control, security and fire alarm.
  • Directs the scheduling, maintenance and management of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water, electric and other systems to ensure efficient operation of these systems at all times.
  • Identifies potential problems, determines solutions and physically carry out minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing repairs that do not require a journeyperson. Reports moderate and major building deficiencies to the supervisor. Validates and recommends plant and equipment modifications, upgrades or replacements and determines preliminary cost estimates and priority ratings
  • Administers Building Services\' policies and procedures including building rules and regulations, evacuation procedures, fire safety plan, security protocols, signage policy, safe work practices. Ensures that work is performed in compliance with corporate and legislative policies related to environmental, health and safety, fire protections, and any other applicable requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication and coordination with other divisions, project teams, departments, consultants and contractors related to expected and unexpected changes in operations. Liaises closely with various levels of government, outside agencies, not-for-profit organizations, associations and the general public to maintain confidentiality related to sensitive concerns.
  • Manages secure card access security software systems - managing secure access for government staff to work sensitive areas and servers. Includes comprehensive understanding of all government department staff and their access needs, managing complex software program groups, and responding to security threats (ex: lockdown procedures)
  • Performs other duties to support building and museum operations as required.
Qualifications and ExperienceFive (5) years related experience and 4th Class Power Engineer (equivalency of experience and a Second Class Refrigeration Certification) is required.Certification in Facilities Management of Building Sciences such as:a) Buildings Systems Technician Diploma (HVAC & R);b) Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA);c) Building Environment Systems (BES);d) International Facility Management Association (IFMA);e) Journeyman in Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical;f) Construction Safety Supervisor Certification.
  • Must have a depth of knowledge related to all aspects of building construction and operation including architectural, plumbing, electrical, fire suppression and HVAC systems.
  • Familiarity with the Occupational Safety General Regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Knowledge of energy optimization theory and re-commissioning practices
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP applications
  • Valid motor vehicle license

The work involves considerable standing and walking and frequent climbing, lifting, crawling and stooping. Work can involve twisting, pulling, and pushing while in awkward positions.
