Characteristic Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Centre Co-ordinator and Aquatic Trainer.


1. Perform various functional duties to ensure the cleanliness of the facility which includes but is not limited to sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning, buffing, waxing and mopping of all public and user group areas within the facility.

2. Act as general handy person in performing a variety of duties connected with maintenance, building and equipment repairs, minor construction, changing lightbulbs and grounds keeping.

3. Set-up and take down hall when required.

4. Ensure all entrances, exits and walkways are always clear of snow and safe for usage.

5. Pick up garbage inside and outside of Facility.

6. Report any maintenance problems to the Recreation Centre Co-ordinator and Aquatic Trainer or designate.

7. Ensure janitorial supplies are stocked and replenished from vendor as required.

8. Provide excellent customer service.

9. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.

10. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:



Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education. Minimum two (2) years of janitorial experience and knowledge of equipment and cleaning supplies. Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communications skills and ability to deal with the public. Demonstrate ability to work co-operatively, efficiently and effectively alongside peers and superiors. Ability to maintain pleasant but effective relations with the public under difficult circumstances. Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing. French verbal and written skills an asset. Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history. Provide, at own cost, a Vulnerable Sector Check.

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.


Development opportunity rate of pay: $29.71 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
