What You'll Do



The Building Maintenance Worker provides building maintenance services that support the operation and improvement of the community's capital assets and infrastructure. Primary responsibilities include general maintenance and repairs, carpentry work, and basic plumbing and heating tasks, as well as assisting certified trades as needed. Additional duties include general labour and groundskeeping.

The worker is required to travel between to various sites to complete tasks and will cross-train with other maintenance staff. As a Building Maintenance Worker, it's critical to follow all safety guidelines, regulations, and organizational policies, and to ensure that all work aligns with the mission and values of the organization. Other related duties as assigned.

Valued Qualifications



Experience & Knowledge:



1-2 years of experience assisting trades with building maintenance and repair work. Experience working with Tradespersons and a basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and heating systems to help communicate issues and support troubleshooting. Experience purchasing, picking-up and delivering supplies. Mature and professional individual with a Grade 12 diploma, supplemented by college or industry training in maintenance or related fields.

Skills & Abilities:



Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with employees and the public. Well-organized and able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to listen effectively and ask questions for clarity. Good computer skills and able to use MS Office Suite, Excel, internet, and email.

Other (required):



Minimum 19 years of age. Physical fitness to perform the work. Compliance with BC Immunization program and TB Screening. Satisfactory completion of a police information. Ability to provide own transportation to and from work. Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and Drivers Abstract.

Optional (assets):



Ability to speak Dene and/or Cree. Other certificates such as: H2S, OFA1 with TE, WHMIS, OHS, Fall Protection, Ladder and Scaffold, Confined Space Entry, Chainsaw Level 2, Bear Aware. Certificate of training in Building Maintenance (2-year program)

Work Setting



The regular work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 35 hours per week. Most work takes place at various public and employer buildings on reserve, with travel to multiple sites as required. Overtime as approved by the supervisor. This role requires strong alertness and concentration when using power tools to ensure safe handling. A high level of attentiveness is also required at all times when operating equipment such as snow blowers, whipper snippers, brush saws, and other machinery to protect the safety of yourself and others.
