As a Building Envelope Engineer, reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading technical projects, guiding multidisciplinary teams, and shaping the future of high-performance buildings across British Columbia. You will be responsible for delivering innovative, code-compliant, and sustainable solutions for building envelope and energy performance challenges. You will be a key contributor to the firm's reputation for excellence, client satisfaction, and industry leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
Perform the role of Engineer of Record (EoR) for company projects and utilize professional seal where required.
Lead or support complex building envelope investigations, assessments, and design projects.
Oversee forensic investigations of building failures, including water ingress, air leakage, and material degradation.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices (e.g. BC Building Code). Alert technical team of any changes to codes, standards or best practices and conduct training sessions to make team aware of the changes.
Develop and review detailed technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
Lead, manage, and mentor junior Engineers and Engineers in Training (EIT).
Project Management
Provide technical support to Project Managers for projects from inception to completion.
Conduct site inspections and field testing.
Lead client meetings, design briefs, and construction coordination sessions.
Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Ensure assigned tasks are completed on time and meet criteria for quality.
Ensure technical resources have training and tools to complete project tasks effectively.
Team Development
Provide technical mentorship and training to junior engineers and technologists.
Develop training guidelines and technical competency expectations for Junior EIT's.
Review and approve work prepared by junior staff and ensure adherence to QA/QC protocols.
Be an ambassador for continuous learning and technical excellence.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
Participate in annual career development planning.
Contribute to internal R&D initiatives and knowledge sharing sessions.
Quality Assurance and Risk Management
Implement and maintain QA/QC protocols/processes.
Help mitigate technical and contractual risks.
Safety
Be an ambassador for safety on all assigned projects
Ensure Hazard ID's are determined before any project field work is started
Business Development & Strategy
Provide support for proposal development fee estimates and client presentations.
Identify new business opportunities and contribute to strategic planning and company growth initiatives.
Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and professional associations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Building Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in BC (EGBC registration required)
Minimum 5 years of experience in building science, building envelope consulting, or energy performance analysis
Proven leadership in overseeing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects
Strong knowledge of building science, materials, and construction practices
Strong communication, organizational, and client management skills.

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range for this position is between $80,000 and $130,000. Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidates actual salary within the expected range.
