Job Description


The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions. CLSI is now accepting applications for a Budget Specialist within our Finance Department. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Budget Specialist supports the advancement of the organization\xe2\x80\x99s funding applications, resource allocation, planning, budget monitoring, and decision-making by providing financial/analytical expertise. The Budget Specialist will be expected to work collaboratively with other departments within CLSI to further the organization\xe2\x80\x99s and departmental priorities articulated through the strategic and operational plans. Responsibilities:

  • Assists in and coordinates developing various funding applications, budgeting, and financial planning activities.
  • Prepares and develops significant analyses on various budget requests to support the budget development process.
  • Monitors revenue, expenses, and capital expenditures against set budgets and works collaboratively with departments on variance analysis and forecasting.
  • Performs monthly and ad-hoc analyses and prepares periodic reports.
  • Ensures appropriate internal controls are in place for the budgeting process.
  • Identifies the financial, operational, and strategic impacts of projects or initiatives; recognizes synergies and risks; suggests improvements and develops solutions to keep projects on budget and on time.
  • Seeks to continuously improve the Finance Department\'s applicable financial procedures, budget processes, and related systems to better serve the needs of the department and the organization.
  • Supports the Finance Department\xe2\x80\x99s priorities and projects including potential assignment for other duties.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Business or Accounting is required.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of related experience is required.
  • CPA designation would be considered an asset.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft products, specifically Excel, is assumed. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP is an asset.
  • Must possess a high level of professional judgment, confidentiality, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skill.
Remuneration: Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
