The Education Commons will provide, in collaboration with major research and development initiatives where appropriate, the iterative design, implementation and evaluation of technological environments and information space in which the academic and research programs of OISE are carried out.

Your opportunity:

Under the direction of the Director, Education Commons, the Budget and Financial Analyst is responsible for overseeing the financial management of budgets which includes strategic planning, analysis and forecasting; forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries; implementing plans to make the finance process more efficient, reliable and more streamlined; producing complex statistical information and performing complex financial data modeling and analysis.

This position will also consult and liaise with a wide range of clients and vendors and will bring discrepancies to their attention with recommendations for a course of action. The incumbent ensures that business transactions are aligned with the general accepted accounting principles, the University\'s financial and purchasing guidelines, as well as the Faculty\'s funding rules.

The incumbent in this role will manage the IT portion of the budget for the research grants while collaborating with the OISE Research services, Finance, Facilities and CAO. This will include budget estimates, forecasts, monitoring, tracking, processing, reporting and auditing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the financial management of budgets that include strategic planning, analysis and forecasting
  • Forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries
  • Planning and overseeing short and long range activities that support financial administration
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for financial administration activities
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
  • Producing complex statistical information
  • Performing complex financial data modeling and analysis
  • Conducting financial research and analysis
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of a recognized professional program (e.g. CPA) is preferred.
  • Minimum five years recent and relevant experience in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting and the preparation of financial reports and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and analyzing complex budgets and forecasts.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, payroll, purchasing and lease agreements, and internal control principles.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting financial trend analysis and proposing effective strategies.
  • Experience analyzing financial data and statistics and producing complex reports.
  • Experience preparing visually impactful financial presentations for management to aid in their strategic reviews.
  • Experience working with financial and procurement policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with fee for service, cost recoveries and revenue generation.
  • Expert knowledge of the University\'s Financial Information System (FIS), Human Resources Information System (HRIS), and Research Information System (RIS) and/or similar systems.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, budget control, finance, and forecasting.
  • Ability to organize and communicate statistical and financial information to non-financial staff and faculty at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical, evaluative, organizational, and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to utilize logic and discretion in the interpretation of policy, procedures and guidelines.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel using formulas, functions, pivots tables and charts and VBA scripting; Intermediate skills with SQL and SPSS.
  • Intermediate skills with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau).
  • Demonstrated strong client service orientation including experience working with diverse populations including demonstrated effective consultation skills with various constituencies.
  • High degree of initiative, dependability and independence. Proven ability to work with highly confidential files, documents, and data, and tactfully handling sensitive issues.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and show an appropriate level of judgment.
  • Highly proactive with ability to effectively multi-task and manage a wide range of duties/priorities simultaneously with conflicting deadlines, in a high-pressure/high-volume environment and continue to maintain the highest degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and quality at all times.
