Job Description

Annex produces six year-round beers, way more experimental brews, and a selection of craft sodas, all from our centrally located headquarters in Calgary, Alberta. We claimed our spot on Alberta's craft brewing map just as it was taking shape in 2015. Since then, we've kept experimenting, adding variables, and pushing ourselves to create beverages that challenge how people think about the way they drink. We're looking to add a new member to our brew team.

The Brewer plays a key role in executing daily brewing, cellaring, and packaging operations to ensure the consistent production of high-quality beer and soda. This position is responsible for maintaining product integrity through adherence to recipes, quality standards, and safety protocols. The Brewer is hands-on in all aspects of back-of-house production, from ingredient handling to equipment maintenance and sanitation, while also contributing to process improvements, record keeping, and recipe development.

Critical Position Results



Consistently produce high-quality beer and soda by following established recipes and contributing to new product development Effectively manage brewing work-in-progress and production timelines to ensure smooth, on-schedule operations Perform regular maintenance and sanitation of all brewing equipment to minimize downtime and uphold product safety Maintain accurate records in ERP systems and adhere to all safety and sanitation protocols to support operational integrity and regulatory compliance

Responsibilities



Oversee daily back-of-house operations including brewing, cellaring, packaging, and inventory management Brew beer and soda according to the production schedule and established recipes, including milling, mashing, boiling, cooling, and transferring wort Handle, prepare, and store raw ingredients and materials safely and efficiently Monitor and document critical quality control parameters (e.g., temperature, pressure, gravities, carbonation levels) Occasionally operate the canning line, including CIP/sanitization, can depalletizing, and performing quality checks Identify and implement ways to reduce waste and control inventory loss Collaborate with the Brewery Operations Manager to create operational efficiencies and recommend process improvements Maintain accurate and timely production records in brewery management software (Ekos) Support recipe development for new beers and sodas in collaboration with the Brewery Ops Manager Perform off-shift cellar monitoring twice per month, as per annual schedule Assist with warehousing, inventory organization, and order building to support the delivery and fulfillment team Adhere to all company policies and SOPs Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment, following all cleaning and maintenance schedules Ensure all safety procedures are followed to uphold Annex's strong safety recordSupport onboarding and training of new team members through hands-on job shadowing Work collaboratively across brewing, packaging, and delivery teams to meet production goals and uphold product quality Coordinate with the Brewery Ops Manager and other departments to align daily activities with broader operational objectives

Required Knowledge and Skills



Minimum one year of experience in a professional brewing environment, including wort production Strong understanding of the brewing process, quality control, and sanitation practices Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a fast-paced production team Skilled in identifying issues and troubleshooting mechanical or process-related problems Commitment to accurate, detailed documentation and record-keeping throughout the brewing process Mechanical aptitude and a proactive approach to equipment care and maintenance Excellent time management, multitasking, and organizational skills Strong communication and interpersonal abilities Proficiency with relevant software, including Microsoft Office, ERP systems and quality assurance tools Dedication to quality, consistency, and adherence to good manufacturing and safety practices Ability to safely lift 25 kg overhead and maneuver 65 kg with a dolly Comfortable working at heights and climbing ladders to handle ingredients Capable of working in wet and slippery conditions while maintaining safety awareness
