We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team.
This is a 32 hour a week, full-time position based primarily at 17 Cornell Meadows Avenue, Markham, ON L6B 1B6 with periodic travel to multiple centre locations in the Toronto Region and GTA in North Toronto, Leslieville, Markham, Goodwood Uxbridge.
Duties
Manage daily bookkeeping activities including recording journal entries, reconciling bank statements, and maintaining the general ledger using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar tools.
Perform account reconciliations for balance sheets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other financial accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Process payroll transactions accurately and timely while ensuring compliance with relevant tax regulations and payroll laws.
Handle accounts payable and receivable functions by verifying invoices, issuing payments, and tracking outstanding balances.
Prepare detailed financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements to support management decision-making.
Assist with governmental accounting requirements and ensure adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Conduct bank reconciliations regularly and perform account analysis to identify discrepancies or irregularities.
Support budgeting processes by tracking expenses against budgets and providing insights for financial planning.
Maintain meticulous records of journal entries, tax filings, and audit documentation to facilitate smooth audits and compliance checks.
Qualifications
Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles with familiarity in public accounting or corporate accounting environments.
Strong proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken or similar platforms; experience with financial software is essential.
Solid understanding of GAAP standards, double entry bookkeeping, general ledger accounting, and financial concepts.
Demonstrated ability to perform account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation accurately.
Knowledge of governmental accounting procedures and tax regulations is a plus.
Excellent skills in account analysis, journal entry preparation, and financial report writing.
Ability to handle high-volume data entry with precision using 10 key typing skills; familiarity with accounts payable/receivable processes is preferred.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-moving environment.
