Part-time Volunteer Position About Northwood Neighbourhood Services (NNS):
NNS was established in 1982 with a mandate to deliver comprehensive settlement support services to newcomers who opted to settle in the North West of Toronto (North York). Since then, we have grown into a reliable and multi-service organization that offers services and support. Staff, volunteers and neighbourhoods work together to provide:

\xe2\x97\x8f employment practices balancing needs and interests of employees and funders
\xe2\x97\x8f careful and responsible design, administration, and programs and services delivery. In addition, NNS very frequently acts as a trustee and mentor of community based initiatives and organizations that aim to make the neighborhood more cohesive and pleasant for the newcomers, immigrants, and refugees. Northwood Neighbourhood Services (NNS), a charitable organization whose mission is to provide programs and services that empower individuals, families and groups to achieve, maintain and enhance a state of physical, mental and social well-being. Our mission is achieved by providing necessary programs and services to our clients, who are also actively involved in the betterment of programs, services as well as the refining and improvement of organization\xe2\x80\x99s mandate and outlook. Through its Board, Executive Director, employees and volunteers, NNS values and respects the dignity and integrity of each individual whose needs bring them to us. NNS appreciates and respects the work of other agencies, groups, individuals and stakeholders in their advocacy and support for newcomers and residents needing settlement and a range of other supportive services.

NNS recognizes, values and respects the public and private in kind and material contributions we receive. 2 Board of Director role and responsibilities:
As the Board of Director, you will be responsible for the following: Standard of care
\xe2\x97\x8f Exercising at least the level of care, diligence and skill that a reasonably prudent person would exercise in comparable circumstances. They are also required to act honestly, in good faith and in the best interests of the corporation, rather than in their own personal interest. Duty to comply \xe2\x97\x8f Complying with the NFP Act and its regulations, the articles, the by-laws and any unanimous member agreement (refer to subsection 148(2) of the NFP Act). Directors are also subject to additional duties under the NFP Act. Liability \xe2\x97\x8f Bearing a degree of financial responsibility for their decisions and actions. Conflicts of interest \xe2\x97\x8f Preventing conflicts between the interests of the corporation and those of the directors or officers. For more information, visit: https://ised-isde.canada.ca/site/corporations-canada/en/not-profit-corporations/directors 3 Requirements for the Board of Director position: \xe2\x97\x8f Manage and supervise the activities and affairs of the organization \xe2\x97\x8f Attend board of directors meetings on a monthly basis \xe2\x97\x8f be at least 18 years old \xe2\x97\x8f not have been declared incapable under the laws of a Canadian province or territory, or by a court in a jurisdiction outside Canada \xe2\x97\x8f be an individual (that is, a corporation cannot be a director) \xe2\x97\x8f not be in bankrupt status \xe2\x97\x8f Living in Toronto, North York, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Scarborough \xe2\x97\x8f Experience being a part of a Board. Additional requirements for the Executive position of Board Secretary: \xe2\x97\x8f Attend all board of director meetings and executive committee meetings \xe2\x97\x8f Act as a signing authority of the organization. \xe2\x97\x8f Minute taking at all meetings \xe2\x97\x8f Maintain all documentation (i.e. confidentiality forms, conflict of interest forms, board meeting minutes) organized Additional requirements for the Executive position of Board Treasurer: \xe2\x97\x8f Attend all board of director meetings and executive committee meetings \xe2\x97\x8f Oversee the financial position of the organization and ensure that it is in line with governing laws and policies \xe2\x97\x8f Report the financial position of the charity at each board meeting \xe2\x97\x8f Act as a signing authority of the organization\xe2\x80\x99s financial documents (i.e. bank authorizations, cheque requisitions, etc.) 4
\xe2\x97\x8f Bachelor degree or equivalent in finance and/or accounting preferred. \xe2\x97\x8f Previous experience on a charity or non-profit finance team OR board preferred. Additional requirements for the Executive position of Board Chair: \xe2\x97\x8f Recommend the schedule of all board meetings \xe2\x97\x8f Chair board of director meetings and executive committee meetings \xe2\x97\x8f Oversee the Executive Director\xe2\x80\x99s management of the organization\xe2\x80\x99s operations and ensure they are aligned with governing laws and policies \xe2\x97\x8f Act as a signing authority on documentation and financial records \xe2\x97\x8f Previous experience on a charity or non-profit management team OR Board preferred. Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 18 per week Salary: $1.00 per hour Benefits:
