Job Description

The Heather Cutler Foundation is a federally incorporated Canadian nonprofit dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for Canadians affected by pancreatic cancer. As Newfoundland and Labrador's first and only member of the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition, we are a national leader in advocacy, patient support, and policy change for one of the most urgent cancer challenges in Canada.

We are inviting expressions of interest from experienced leaders to join our Board of Directors. This is a volunteer governance role for individuals whose vision and values align with our mission: ensuring equitable, timely, and effective care for all Canadians facing pancreatic cancer.

Board Role & Expectations



As a member of the Board, you will:

Support the Foundation's mission, values, and strategic vision Serve a two-year term (renewable once) Attend 6-8 board meetings annually (virtual or hybrid; ~2 hours each) Participate in committee meetings (~1-2 per month) and an annual retreat Assist in developing and overseeing strategic directions Contribute your expertise on an as-needed basis Represent the Foundation as an ambassador in the community This opportunity is unpaid and volunteer-based
Estimated commitment: 5-8 hours per month

Desired Expertise



We are seeking Directors with experience in one or more of the following areas:

Legal Oversight - Lawyer with knowledge of nonprofit governance, healthcare, or corporate law Financial Oversight - CPA or senior financial professional with nonprofit financial management experience Clinical Care - Licensed oncologist, family physician, or healthcare professional with cancer care expertise Research & Academia - Advanced degree and experience in health services research, policy, or administration
We also value:

Previous nonprofit or board governance experience Fundraising and resource development background Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Personal or professional connection to cancer care (preferred)
