Located in Ottawa and established in 1961, the CBC Pension Board of Trustees is responsible for administering the CBC Pension Plan (the \xe2\x80\x9cPlan\xe2\x80\x9d) on behalf of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Canada\xe2\x80\x99s national broadcaster. With over 20,000 members and over $8 billion in assets, the Plan is managed by a dedicated team of 26 investment and operational staff under the general direction of the Managing Director/CEO.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Secretary/Treasurer, the Board Governance and Communication Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing operational and administrative activities for the CBC Pension Board of Trustees (the \xe2\x80\x9cPension Board\xe2\x80\x9d). The Specialist will be accountable for planning and executing Pension Board calendars, work plans, meetings, and records management, as well as coordinating meeting materials with management, staff, and external parties.

The Specialist will play a key role in planning, researching, and writing high-quality communication deliverables including the Pension Board quarterly Communique, managing and updating the content for the Pension Board external website, and leading the preparation of the Pension Board\xe2\x80\x99s Annual Report to members. The Specialist will also play a lead role in developing and implementing the Pension Plan\xe2\x80\x99s internal and external communication plans. This will include working with Management to determine the communication strategy.

The Specialist will also provide human resources, operational and administrative support to the Secretary-Treasurer, Managing Director/CEO, and the Pension Board, and will provides training, support, and backup to administrative staff.

The Specialist respects the highly confidential and sensitive nature of information related to the Pension Board and the Plan regulatory and policy matters, investment strategies, financial data and member data. This position requires the individual to work independently and within critical timelines to meet required monthly and annual internal and external reporting and Pension Board meeting deadlines.

This position requires strong people skills as the individual is required to work with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders. The Specialist will interact with the Trustees, senior management, Plan staff, various CBC/Radio-Canada departments, as well as third-party service providers such as the Plan\xe2\x80\x99s auditors, actuaries, external consultants, and other vendors.

We are looking for a candidate with the following

Professional Requirements:
  • University/College degree preferably with a focus in business administration, communications, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 related experience (or acceptable combination of training and experience)
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is required.
  • Knowledge of the pension industry/defined benefit pension plans, and/or financial sector considered an asset.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail oriented and motivated to ensure accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and be part of a team, showing initiative to effectively share and communicate information.
  • Highly computer literate with strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with a board software application is considered an asset.
  • Travel may be required (approximately 1-2 days per year).

What we offer

Salary will be based on qualifications and experience with a minimum starting salary of $80,000.

We offer a Defined Benefit Pension (DB) plan, comprehensive family medical, dental and vision coverage, and 4 weeks of vacation.
