Our current R&D focus encompasses whole crude oil desulfurization, clean fuel formulation, advanced internal combustion engine, oil to hydrogen, oil to chemicals, carbon management, natural gas and sulfur disposition and biocatalysis. We are seeking a Blue Hydrogen & Ammonia Specialist to join our blue hydrogen and sustainability programs. This newly-created position will be responsible for developing blue hydrogen and blue ammonia supply chain technologies, including: reforming technologies for synthesis gas production, blue ammonia production, ammonia cracking; and ammonia supply chain and utilization technologies for emerging transport applications by initiating innovative projects from lab to pilot demonstration and pre commercial scales

Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects and teams to conduct in-house R&D development in blue hydrogen/blue ammonia technologies.
  • Conduct pre-feasibility and full feasibility studies of oil-based fuel reforming and blue hydrogen/blue ammonia processes.
  • Oversee the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Management (EPCM) of future fuel reforming demonstration projects.
  • Lead the detailed engineering design effort in conjunction with selected licensors for large scale hydrogen production processes.
  • Provide hands-on assistance with the commissioning, operation and maintenance of pilot demonstration and pre-commercial oil-based fuel reforming units.
  • Liaise with production and facility planning personnel to ensure that oil-based reforming technology can be deployed in various This Company assets within the scope of downstream and strategic R&D activities.
  • Liaise with potential partners and joint R&D collaborations to execute new technologies.
  • Lead and train young Saudi engineers while keeping abreast of the engineering and scientific developments of oil-based fuel reforming technologies.
Requirements:
  • This role required candidate to permanently relocate at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
  • Qualifications required: Masters in Chemical Engineering, PhD preferred.
  • 7+ years, preferably in low carbon hydrogen and low carbon ammonia design and/or operational roles; five years of which must have included dealing with bench-scale to pilot-scale demonstration projects.
  • Conversant with various reforming technologies, such as Catalytic Partial Oxidation, Autothermal Reforming, and Steam Reforming; as well as emerging concepts relevant to synthesis gas and hydrogen production.
  • Extensive familiarity and hands-on working with hydrogen carriers such as ammonia, hydrogen carriers, and liquid hydrogen.
  • Extensive knowledge, background, and experience in catalysis relevant to reforming reactions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the various processes involved in the production of hydrogen and ammonia (grey, blue, and green).
  • Specific knowledge on steam methane reforming (SMR), ATR, POX, electrolysis (alkaline, PEM, SOE), CO2 sequestration, and the Haber-Bosch Process.
  • Extensive understanding of the current and possible future roles of blue hydrogen and blue ammonia within the energy industry.
  • Strong background in project economics is highly desirable.
