Project Description
Fraser Health is upgrading its enterprise integration platform from Microsoft BizTalk Server 2016 (BTS2016) to BizTalk Server 2020 (BTS2020). The Enterprise Integration Services Team (EIST) manages ~200 integrated applications and processes over 200 million messages annually across critical clinical and business systems. The objective is a like?for?like migration that preserves existing functionality and integration content while ensuring vendor supportability and reducing operational risk. The outcome will be a fully operational BizTalk 2020 environment with all BizTalk applications migrated, validated, and documented to sustain secure, stable services through April 2030.
Services Required
As a Software Developer on the EIST project team, you will follow Fraser Health's established conversion guide, architecture standards, and development practices to perform technical conversion, validation, and documentation activities required to upgrade BizTalk 2016 solutions to BizTalk 2020. You will collaborate closely with EIST leadership and internal stakeholders to ensure high?quality, standards?compliant deliverables and effective knowledge transfer.
Duties Include
Solution conversion
: Convert BizTalk 2016 Visual Studio solutions to BizTalk 2020 format according to the EIST conversion guide.
Code quality & standards compliance
: Review and refine schemas, maps, pipelines, and orchestrations to align with Fraser Health coding conventions and architectural standards; remediate obsolete components or unsupported practices.
Testing & validation
: Perform unit testing on converted solutions; document results; resolve defects with EIST staff; ensure compatibility with connected systems ahead of downstream integration testing.
Technical documentation
: Update and maintain technical documentation reflecting conversion changes; provide commentary and traceability for all modifications.
Collaboration & knowledge transfer
: Participate in regular project meetings; provide progress updates and surface risks/issues; support knowledge transfer to Fraser Health staff to enable sustainable operations post?conversion.
Constraints and Special Considerations
Remote Work location & hours
: Must be Canada?based and available to work 37.5 hours/week in alignment with Pacific Time (Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.).
Engagement window
: December 17, 2025 to March 31, 2026 (with potential extensions).
Environment
: Large, multi?site health system with high?volume, mission?critical integrations (~200 applications; 200M+ messages/year).
Standards adherence
: All work must follow EIST architecture, coding standards, security, and documentation practices.
Experience and Qualifications
- Hands?on development experience with
Microsoft BizTalk
(2016/2020) and
Visual Studio
- Working knowledge of
HL7 v2
in healthcare integration contexts.
- Proficiency with
.NET/C#
and modern SDLC practices.
- Experience using
Azure DevOps (On?Premises)
for source control, CI/CD, and work item tracking.
- Proven ability to deliver on large?scale healthcare integration initiatives/projects.
- Ability to create clear, comprehensive technical documentation.
- Strong collaboration skills working with project managers, business analysts, and business/clinical stakeholders.
- Experience working within large team environments and cross?functional project structures.
Assets
- Experience working at
