Wildlife Biologist
Biologist R24 An excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional Kamloops is a mid-sized city of 97,000 people nestled in the Thompson River valley and surrounded by grassland and forests. The Thompson Okanagan Region is renowned for its outdoor activities, with exceptional mountain biking, climbing, hiking, fishing, downhill and cross-country skiing, canoeing, and hunting opportunities all within easy access. The Thompson Okanagan is also centrally located for an easy trip to the coast and the interior regions of the province. The Wildlife Program manages, conserves, enhances, restores, and allocates wildlife resources in the Ministry of Forests of the Province of British Columbia. The Wildlife Section is responsible for establishing a regional wildlife conservation, management and recreational use program focusing on species conservation, recovery, monitoring, and establishing a range of recreational use programs for wildlife. Within the Division, Regional Operations achieves the Ministry\xe2\x80\x99s service plan, business goals and objectives by implementing various programs and providing input to legislation, regulations, guidelines, objectives, and policy. Regional Operations works to ensure environmental expectations and standards are developed and communicated in an effective way to government, agencies, First Nations, industry, stakeholders, and the public. The Wildlife Biologist provides support to the Senior Wildlife Biologist and Wildlife Section Head by participating in all aspects of the delivery of the Wildlife Program in the regional office. This position applies biological theory, methodology and technical knowledge of wildlife species, current research, techniques, and technologies, to assess management options on wildlife species. Guided by provincial legislation including the Wildlife Act and Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People Act, and associated federal legislation, policy, procedures and regulations, the position develops, evaluates, and implements wildlife species management programs to meet Ministry wildlife objectives. This position applies sound scientific judgment, creativity, ingenuity, and critical thinking to plan, direct, coordinate and implement components of complex resource management issues. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing project budgets, contracts, and human resources; providing professional advice and technical expertise; collaborating with First Nations; working with other provincial and federal government agencies; engaging external stakeholders; and partnering with private industry, post-secondary institutions, and public groups. The successful candidate will work in a team of resource management professionals, and in a collaboration with First Nations, to meet ministry wildlife objectives. Job Requirements:
