You belong here. Mercer’s Legal Team is seeking a Bilingual Legal Counsel for our Montreal office. What can you expect?

  • You will be a member of the Marsh McLennan Legal, Compliance & Public Affairs (“LCPA”) Department that supports Mercer in Canada, a closely-knit team of five professionals working alongside colleagues in Mercer’s three primary lines of business: wealth, health, and career, as well as functional support areas. As a true partner to the business, the legal team provides high quality, cost effective strategic and tactical legal advice on various commercial, corporate, privacy and technology law and related matters
  • You will have the opportunity to work on matters impacting Mercer globally and across Canada, with a primary focus on Mercer’s business in Québec
  • Core responsibilities will include client and supplier contracting, RFP support, drafting and negotiation of a wide array of non-disclosure, privacy, data protection, software licensing and vendor and partner agreements

We will count on you to:
  • Draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements with clients from all industry sectors
  • Advise on legal, regulatory, and business risks related to the Canadian consulting business
  • Contribute to and reinforce the Marsh McLennan LCPA Department’s Strategic Plan and initiatives that impact the LCPA organization
  • Collaborate effectively with business, operations, and legal and compliance colleagues
  • Promote an ethical culture where employees are encouraged to voice their concerns and opinions
  • Above all, exercise sound judgment
  • Provide Quebec specialist support to Marsh McLennan affiliates when required
What you need to have:
  • 2-4 years at a law firm or in-house at a reputable company; however, interested candidates outside of the stated range are encouraged to apply
  • Law degree and called to the Barreau du Quebec
  • Corporate/ commercial law experience
  • Fluent in French and English
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and adapt to change and be comfortable in areas of ambiguity

  • Knowledge of Canadian Pension and Privacy Laws and Québec language laws are an asset
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to excel in a high-volume environment
