We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bilingual Legal Assistant to support our legal team in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative, with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for managing files, preparing legal documents, and providing overall administrative support to Ottawa lawyers.
Duties
Proofread and review legal documents for accuracy and clarity
Assist with legal drafting, including correspondence, pleadings, and reports
Manage timelines and lawyer calendars and coordinate tasks to ensure deadlines are met
Organize and maintain electronic files using document management systems
Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of case information
Handle filing of legal documents in accordance with court procedures
Provide clerical support such as answering phones with professional phone etiquette, scheduling appointments, and preparing meeting materials
Assist with general administrative tasks including document organization, mail handling, and office supply management
Qualifications
Previous experience as a legal assistant in labour and employment and/or litigation preferred
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
Excellent proofreading, writing, and legal drafting skills in French and English
Strong set of technical skills which include, but are not limited to, Word, Outlook and Adobe. Knowledge of Excel, Netdocs, Soluno is considered an asset
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in data entry and document review
Good phone etiquette and professional communication skills
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced setting
