The Roles


Under the direction of the Employment Services Coordinator, this position is responsible for the development and delivery of employment and career counselling services and support to residents of Petawawa to Deux Rivieres through the partnership agreement with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.

The Employment Coach will work out of the


Petawawa and Deep River offices, on a regular rotational basis.



Client Interaction (65%):



Assess clients' needs regarding employment, identify skills and barriers, career decision and career planning Provide supportive coaching empowering clients to overcome barriers to employment, make referrals to appropriate community resources as needed Support clients with determining their interests, aptitudes and abilities Aid clients in the development of "employment action plans" and in the establishment and achievement of goals Facilitate the development of client resumes, cover letters, and job applications while empowering clients to gain the skills and confidence for independence in these areas Coach clients in job search strategies and assisting with interview preparation Guide eligible clients through the application process to access other Ministry programs including Better Jobs Ontario Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the local labour market, employer expectations, and resources available to our clients Orient clients to the job market and advise on employment and educational options, advise on accreditation of qualifications

Program Development (5%):



Provide tailored employment-related support to people of diverse needs and backgrounds Assess clients' needs and barriers and assist them with addressing them through referrals, upskilling, and social services Identify clients' credentials, work experience (foreign and Canadian), and skills Assist clients in the goal setting and development of an action plan for transition Assess client and employment trends and modify service delivery to ensure responsive and tailored service Create employment-related tools, workshops, resources, and materials for client use

Service Promotion and Community Development (10%):



Attend appropriate community events to create an awareness of the programming available through the ES Maintain active contacts in the local area with businesses, employers, organizations, and agencies Participate in networking with other service providers and community social agencies Act as a resource person within community regarding employment Promote PMFRC programming within the community

Administration (20%):



Attend and participate in the appropriate ES, PMFRC, Serco, and Ministry staff meetings Collect statistical information and document client information and activities Complete warm referrals to identified supports for clients, including social services, training and education, mental and physical health referrals, etc. and ensure documentation of all interactions Connect with clients regularly and ensure case files are updated in real time Adhere to the administrative and Human Resources policies and practices of the PMFRC and ES; and Follow appropriate internal procedures for volunteer involvement

Qualifications and Experience



Post-secondary education in a Social Services, Human Resources or Employment Counselling field. Knowledge of current labour market and trends. Experience in group facilitation and training. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with preference given to those bilingual in both official languages (English and French). Understanding of Ontario labour market supply and demand, trends and economic outlook. Knowledge of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, civilian, provincial agencies and other organizations that can provide employment related support services. Experience working with confidential and sensitive information and referral processes an asset. Ability to prepare written reports, correspondence and maintain accurate client records. Demonstrated abilities in customer service skills.

Of virtual and tele coaching principles Of maintaining classified records and adhering to client file management legislation Of adult learning principles Of the CAF community and Lifestyle Of CAMs, Microsoft Office (365), Zoom, and Teams platforms.

Certification / Licenses



The following certifications / licenses will be considered an asset:

CPR & First Aid Mental Health First Aid Training and/or Education in Career Development theories or practices

Believes in and practices the mission and goals of the PMFRC with a thorough understanding of Canadian Armed Forces communities. High degree of personal initiative and ability to work flexible hours. Sensitivity and tact in dealing with all people and able to effectively collaborate with community partners. Public speaking and presentation development. Able to be energetic, resilient and maintain a sense of humour when personal resources are challenged. Maintain a high degree of personal initiative with good planning and organizational skills. Maintain a constant awareness of the "client" and exhibit recognition and appreciation of their needs and achieve results with positive outcomes. Ease of working with IT tools (Office Suite, Internet, MS Teams, WebEx, and Zoom etc). Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well both independently and in a collaborative team environment.

Conditions of Employment



Adhere to all PMFRC policies and procedures including policies regarding privacy code and confidentiality.

Participate/ assist with all special events when required.

Provide proof of any applicable registration with the respective regulatory body if applicable.

Occasional extended workday and/or occasional evening or weekend as required.

Ability to provide

a clear

criminal record check, obtain an enhanced reliability security clearance, and vulnerable

sector screening (current within 6 months).

Valid Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for work related travel and requisite driver's insurance.

Travel within the County of Renfrew.

Thorough understanding of Canadian Armed Forces communities, systems, and policies to effectively assist families in accessing appropriate services and supports.
