Job Description

Purpose of Position:

Under the general direction of the Director of Communications, the position provides a broad range of digital communication products and services to USJE's Communications department and contributes to USJE fulfilling its communication objectives.

Responsibilities of Position



THE POSITION

contributes to building USJE's online profile through digital content and platforms by:

Maintaining and updating the content, graphic design and consistent brand of the USJE social media, website and other electronic platforms using applicable tools.

Monitoring social media channels to identify articles of interest for posting and/or politically sensitive comments to escalate for action.

Posting routine and pre-approved posts, creating social media content for approval and posting.

Working collaboratively with web developers and supervisors on changes or new developments to the USJE website and identifying, and diagnosing where possible, website problems for correction.

Supporting and monitoring the use of USJE logos/images for compliance with brand guidelines, creating and updating draft logo/image templates ensuring high quality and ease of distribution.

Creating and editing draft design for flyers, videos and graphics for various communication projects, initiatives, website and social media channels for feedback and approval.

THE POSITION

provides communication support by:

Creating and maintaining websites.

Creating digital campaign documents.

Distributing approved mass member emails using on-line platforms.

Responding to, and or triaging, members inquiries for communications support through including monitoring and processing the communications group email inbox and special project email inboxes as needed.

Identifying potential promotional items, working with the designer, compiling departmental feedback and proposing orders to Operations team.

Coordinating with the Information Management department and printer to ensure sufficient hard copies of communications tools are available.

Collaborating and sharing information as a member of the communication team.

THE POSITION

provides administrative and logistical support for USJE projects, committees or events by:

Coordinating occasional special projects which may include liaising with participants.

Supporting group events which may include communicating with event participants, ensuring documentation is available for participants, translators and facilitators and liaising with USJE staff and hotel staff on site, as necessary.

Undertaking occasional administrative tasks for the department including trouble shooting equipment, printing, tracking certain key departmental deliverables and prompts team with timelines as necessary.

Qualifications



Post-secondary graduate in communications, public relations, journalism or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in communications, media relations, political action and communication strategies.

A minimum of three (3) Years' experience in developing communications products and websites for a variety of audiences.

Knowledge and experience of computer technology and website content management systems including WordPress, mass e-mail, survey and data analytic tools such as Mailchimp and Google Analytics.

Knowledge and experience of social media platforms such as Facebook, BlueSky, YouTube, Instagram etc. and experience creating social media engagement and posts.

Oral and written communication skills in both official languages is required.

Knowledge and ability to use software applications such as Photoshop, Adobe and MS Suite.

Knowledge of the political and operational structure of unions including USJE's mandate, policies and regulations with demonstrated commitment to union and social justice values as well as understanding of the economic, social, political and labour issues affecting the labour movement and USJE members.

Knowledge of the Federal Government operational and political structure is considered an asset.

Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse staff including remote colleagues, coalitions and elected union members.

High degree of initiative, tact, diplomacy, sound judgment and adaptability to work independently and within a high-performing team.

Knowledge of general office procedures and project management principles with a high degree of organizational skills, flexibility and adaptability to meet multiple deadlines.

Good knowledge of proofreading and writing techniques, including grammar, sentence structure, punctuation and spelling.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: $91,837.00-$103,365.00 per year
