POSITION SUMMARY:

This is the entry level for a Contract Writer in the Contract/ Client Solutions department.

After an initial training period, where they will be presented with Insurance 101, basic product knowledge (Health and Dental, Life, AD&D, Dependent Life and Disability benefits) and department processes, the new contract writer, will be able to construct standard policy agreements and booklets for small to medium sizes groups following established processes and existing templates. They will also work on standard revisions for groups as well as other client-related documentation.

They will work for the three regions, Atlantic, Ontario and Quebec.

This is an engaging role for a lifelong learning individual with a curious mind and a desire to provide excellent service to our clients. This is the foundation to a successful career as a contract writer and should not be taken lightly; rather, the incumbent is encouraged to take all opportunities to learn and research to develop skills needed at higher levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create standard contract and booklets ensuring documented processes are followed.

Revising standard contracts and booklets.

Ensuring deadlines are adhered to, and have an ongoing communication with the requestor to show ownership/Case Management.

Understanding grammar and typography rules, and how to construct clear sentences.

Being mindful of things like flow, readability and document formatting.

Quality at source is critical, proofread and ensure work is accurate for the customers optimal client experience.

The ability to cooperate with other writers to complete initiatives or team goals.

Attend and participate in team meetings.

Communicate effectively with other departments, team members, training and contract specialists, when clarification is needed on some work items.

Generally, the learning curve for this role and level is 12 to 18 months.

Prior to moving to the next level, writer must be fluent with all basic contract writing templates, and must maintain a meets expectation with minimal support.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree or degree level (Translation, writing, studies in English and French), or a combination of relevant experience in fields of interest;

Bilingualism in English and French;

Strong analytical skills;

Ability to negotiate on timelines;

Effective at building relationships with peers, functional teams and internal stakeholders;

Networking skills;

Ability to see the big pictures;

Good presentation skills;

The ability to convey an idea concisely; and

Knowledge of MS office (advanced knowledge of Word).
