Job Description

Government top up available for all certified level staff within all BGC Strathcona County licensed before and after school care programs.

No Childcare Level: $16.00 per hour + No Hourly Top Up Available

Childcare Level 1: $17.00 + Hourly Top Up Available Depending on Experience

Childcare Level 2: $18.00 + Hourly Top Up Available Depending on Experience

Childcare Level 3: $19.00 + Hourly Top Up Available Depending on Experience

Program Staff -



Reporting to a location Club Coordinator, this position will be responsible for the day-to-day facilitation and successful programming of all BGC programs. This position will also be responsible for the direct implementation and facilitation of all identified programs, BGC directives, and support in assurance of meeting all licensing requirements as directed by the organization. A Program Staff represents BGC and will do their utmost to develop and maintain a positive relationship with any school partners, parents, community partners, and community members associated with the organization in any capacity. Program Staff will always represent BGC and its interests as an essential part of the programming team within the organization.

All BGC Strathcona County staff are expected to be punctual and always interact in a professional manner, always showing up on shift with staff uniform with a positive attitude.

Program Development & Implementation



1. Support the Club Coordinator in facilitating and programming captivating, ever changing, and engaging programs that align with the BGC core values. Ensure programs are age appropriate while always being developmentally suitable for the various ages we serve. All activities must meet the physical, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional needs of participants that attend each program.

2. Implement directives as assigned from the Club Coordinator.

3. Ensure all licensing requirements are being met while working on location in all BGC programs. Including ensuring all proper documentation is posted, staff certifications, menus, calendars, BGC policies, and practices as well as level requirements are always being met.

4. Support, implement, and facilitate all program plans and directives from Club Coordinators including the provision of BGC equipment and supplies.

5. Support Club Coordinator by ensuring all programs provided meet requirements of grant applications and/or of funding organizations. Maintain information required for reporting including statistical and financial information and prepare reports as required.

6. Help support and participate in the recognition of significant days and events such as Anti-bullying Day,
Truth & Reconciliation, Black History Month, Earth Day, etc.

7. Ensure that all programs provide a safe and caring environment, promotes positive child and youth development while providing mentoring opportunities for all children and youth.

8. Work to develop positive relationships with all BGC Strathcona County staff.

9. Support the Club Coordinator to ensure the successful closure of BGC programs for the Christmas &
Summer seasons.

Personnel & Site Management and Supervision



11. Ensure expectations detailed in BGC Strathcona County job description named "Program Staff" are being met and followed at all times.

12. Communicate effectively with all BGC Fort Strathcona County staff, encourage team building, and positive working relationships through accountability, reliability, and constructive feedback. Utilize the strengths of the individuals it is comprised of to best achieve a successful program.

13. Ensure program complies with all aspects of childcare licensing requirements.

14. Assist where needed with club maintenance program facilitations, and cleaning duties as required, including the ongoing maintenance of and accountability for BGC equipment.

15. Supervise and assist with the sign-in and sign-out system, ensure all children unaccounted for have there whereabouts confirmed in a timely fashion.

16. Demonstrate full awareness of work health and safety issues/procedures including emergency procedures. Take a lead role in promoting and supporting safety and well-being of children and staff. Anticipating and responding appropriately to potential threats.

17. Ensure the safety and security of all programs and its members, assist where needed in responding to critical incidents and follow up on incidents in accordance with the policies and procedures in place.

18. Help identify gap areas and training that would benefit staff to the betterment of the organization.

19. Participate in scheduled staff meetings and trainings, send monthly reports if required on program activities and relevant information of programs to the Club Coordinator to enable to correct reporting to the Support
Manager & Director of Children's Programs

Administration



21. Support where needed with administrative and financial information as required - including collection, receipting, and tracking of fees, attendance records and numbers tracking, registration and wait lists, emergency contact binders and forms, staff certification binders, medication forms and other items.

22. Complete administrative tasks including snack preparation and light cleaning duties in all BGC programs.

23. Notify the Club Coordinator when information may arise about a member or any relevant changes to a member's environment is made.

24. Ensure the correct implementation of all organizational policies, practices, and procedures.

25. Contribute if needed with input to budget and keep expenditures within applied monthly budget.

26. Collaborate with BGC staff to ensure a positive and engaging experience for members and program staff.

27. Ensure all program budgets are reconciled correctly in a quick and effective manner.

Public Relations



29. Ensure a healthy relationship and effective communication between school staff, club parents, members, community partners, and club staff.

30. If required positively communicate and interact with parents or guardians of child's observed behaviour and social interactions, explore available options to improve the child's experience at BGC when instructed by
Club.

31. Encourage participation from staff and role model investment in the BGC mission.

32. Wear staff uniform and appropriate attire during program hours.

33. Represent the club in an appropriate manner while on shift and off shift and in public.

Position Requirements & Qualifications



Required qualifications in childcare as per licensing requirements (Level 1,2, or 3). Demonstrable skill and enjoyment in working with children, an excellent understanding of school-aged children and knowledge of effective methods of managing, caring, and promoting positive behaviors with children. Knowledge, experience and/or education of program planning and development, coordination, and implementation. Ability to form positive relationships with staff, children, and parents. Ability to work independently and within a team that embraces collaborative practices. A commitment to personal and professional development. Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. Knowledge of computers and related experience with Microsoft software. Skill in organization and work-load management for oneself and others. Ability to be creative and flexible. Ability to problem solve and make decisions. Minimum of 1 year experience working with children and youth. Capacity to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrates an egalitarian philosophy and non-judgmental attitude (i.e. sensitivity to diversity, poverty, and minority issues). Strong computer skills. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Available to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends. Current Children's Services Intervention and Police Vulnerable Persons Check. First Aid Certification with CPR Level C. Maintain proper transportation to meet all positional requirements
