Nature & Scope
The Bettie Allard YMCA in British Columbia offers a Family Drop-in Program, providing a supportive environment for parents and caregivers with children aged 0-5 years. This program, hosted by the YMCA Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR), features a variety of activities designed to promote learning and socialization among young children. Participants can enjoy art activities, storytelling, and singing, while also accessing resources on child development and parenting. The program operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is a valuable community service for families.
The facilitator for the CCRR program at YMCA BC is responsible for creating a welcoming environment, maintaining positive communication with families, and providing resources and training for parents and caregivers. They will also supervise volunteers, collaborate with community agencies, and ensure safety and confidentiality standards are upheld. Additionally, the facilitator is expected to maintain a clean and orderly program space, adhere to YMCA policies, and be flexible to the changing needs of the program and its participants.
Major Responsibilities

in this position, you will:
Create a welcoming and open program environment for all participants
Establish and maintain positive daily communication and interaction with families, providing quality customer service and building meaningful relationships.
Organize and facilitate parent/caregiver training opportunities
Provide information on local community resources to program participants
Maintain and develop the parent/caregiver resource library
Understand the principles of best practice in Family Resource Programs
Supervise and provide leadership to volunteers
Work as part of the YMCA CCRR team to deliver a high quality program that promotes best practice in child development and is responsive to the needs of program participants
Work in collaboration and partnership and maintain positive working relationships with other community agencies and service providers
Ensure that all safety and supervision standards are implemented and maintained according to YMCA requirements
Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the program, the children, their families and staff
Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment, including all activity and program areas, common spaces, and washrooms
Maintain regular attendance, punctuality and to be appropriately dressed
Read, understand and follow all YMCA Policies and Procedures and legal requirements
Perform other related duties as required and be flexible to a changing work environment
Required to complete set up and take down of program, including lifting items up to 10 pounds
Qualification

you bring:
Early Childhood Educator Certificate required
Infant/Toddler Educator and/or Special Needs Educator Certificates are an asset
Additional courses/training related to child growth and development an asset
2-3 years of experience supervising staff/volunteers and working with children and families in a group recreational/child care setting
Strong knowledge and awareness of family and parenting issues
Excellent communication skills and experience working with a variety of cultural and family dynamics, preferably in a Family Resource Program setting
Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage time effectively in a fast paced changing environment
Ability to speak additional languages is an asset
Emergency First Aid/CPR-C Certificate required, can be obtained within 30 days of start date
Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
