Reporting to the Executive Director and under their direction, the Bereavement Services Manager provides critical services in supporting families and individuals after the death of a loved one.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Program Development & Oversight
Design and implement bereavement programs, including individual counselling, group support sessions, and workshops.
Evaluate the effectiveness of bereavement services and adjust programs as needed based on feedback and outcomes.
Support other staff in program development and delivery as requested.
2. Support & Counselling
Provide grief support to individuals and families after a death, either directly or through oversight of trained staff or volunteers.
Facilitate or co-facilitate grief support groups.
Provide clinical supervision or support to program staff as requested.
Ensure support services are accessible, inclusive, culturally sensitive, and trauma informed.
3. Volunteer Supervision
Provide clinical supervision and support to volunteers.
Supervision of practicum students as assigned.
Assign and regularly review volunteer placements.

Community Engagement & Education
Promote awareness of hospice bereavement services in the community through community presentations as assigned.
Liaise with other program staff for program development and delivery.
Answer requests from schools, local organizations, care facilities, and other agencies to support grieving individuals.
5. Administration & Reporting
Provide a written monthly report on activities to the Executive Director and complete other reports as directed.
Oversee compilation of annual statistics as required for grants and reporting purposes.
Manage the bereavement services budget.
Maintain accurate records for reporting, funding, and evaluation purposes.
Maintain clear, timely and organized client-related documentation and database information across all relevant service delivery platforms
Report outcomes and progress to the Executive Director or others as assigned.
6. Compliance & Ethical Practice
Ensure all services comply with ethical standards, privacy regulations, and non-profit or hospice accreditation requirements.
Continue with professional and educational development yearly.
Regularly engage in intentional self-care practices to maintain personal well-being and ensure optimal support and presence for clients, volunteers, and colleagues.
Skills & Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree and experience in social work, counselling, psychology, or a related field.
Specialized training or experience in grief counselling or palliative care an asset
Skilled ability to set and hold professional and ethical boundaries with clients, volunteers, and colleagues.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
Completion of the Basic Hospice Training course.
Experience working with volunteers and in a non-profit setting is often preferred.
