About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Manager - Aquired Brain Injury (ABI) and working in close collaboration with ABI Day Program team members and members of the ABI Outreach and Outpatient teams, the Behaviorist participates in the initial assessment of acquired brain injury survivors, development of behavioral treatment plans and depending on the caseload assignment, individual and/or group-based rehab programs, provides behavioral interventions and education for survivors, their caregivers and other health professionals. There are two Behaviorist positions aligned with the Acquired Brain Injury Program: one with a caseload in the ABI Day Treatment Program and the other with a caseload in the ABI Outreach Team. The Behaviorist is one of the on-site supervisors of the Therapeutic Assistants (TAs) and provides direction and coaching to the TAs. As a member of the ABI Day Program team, the Behaviorist will work with survivors to support their adaptation to social and group-based activities, design and develop programs to foster adaptive pro-social community re-integration and participate in developing and delivering the Programs\' Core and Series curriculum.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Completion of a university program in a health profession required; Masters level preferred
  • Must maintain membership in good standing or be eligible for membership within relevant health profession regulatory board or association
  • Minimum of one year of related employment experience
  • Completion of supervised practical training in behavioral analysis and non-aversive behavior therapy required, or willingness to complete same
  • Completion of university courses, preferably within a health profession, in clinical assessment/evaluation, clinical interviewing and clinical intervention required
  • Completion of university courses, preferably at the graduate or professional level, in clinical or applied ethics, learning, motivation, cognitive rehabilitation, adult psychopathology, human neuropsychology, cognitive neurosciences, family systems, behavior analysis, behavior modification and non-aversive behavioral therapy are strong assets for this position
  • Training or experience in motivational interviewing and client centered treatment approaches are strong assets
  • Training or experience in group-based treatment approaches are strong assets
  • Completion of training in advanced non-violent crisis intervention, and suicide/violent risk assessment required or willingness to complete same
  • Willingness and ability to travel and see patients potentially within a variety of settings within the HRM catchment area (must have valid Nova Scotia drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle preferred)
  • Willingness to participate in the development of ABI Outreach, ABI Day Programming and Comprehensive Community Programming
  • Willingness to work within a collaborative inter-professional context
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Permanent Full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
Compensation and Incentives

$33.03 - $43.53 Hourly
