Position Summary
The beach water sampling summer student collects beach water samples at public beaches and conducts testing and analysis of monitored parameters as part of Lambton Public Health's Beach Water Quality Monitoring Program.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Beach Water Sampling:
Attend public beaches daily to collect beach water samples and to conduct testing and analysis of monitored parameters.
Enter sampling and monitoring parameters into Predictive Beach Models (where applicable) to assess beach water quality.
Package and prepare samples for shipment to the laboratory.
Assist with pre-season and on-going assessments at beaches to identify physical/environmental concerns or hazards.
Assist with any beach related assigned projects.
Administrative:
Maintain results of all monitoring activities and water sampling in a database.
Prepare summary reports of results as required.
General:
Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis.

Credentials Required
Minimum Formal Education
Enrolment in an Environmental Studies, Environmental Health, Biology/Science, Health Sciences or Health Studies program at a recognized University or College.
Experience
No related experience is required.
A valid Ontario driver's license and use of a vehicle.
Summer Student positions with the County of Lambton may be dependent on funding and the funding criteria, which specifies that students must:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age
Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Legally entitled to work in Canada
* Will not have another full-time job
