POSITION:

Perkins (AXE Bar) Supervisor - Full-time (7 month Term)



We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual to join our Retail and Food Services team. As a supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Perkins in the AXE Bar. You will work closely with the AXE Bar Manager to ensure operational goals are met, while delivering a level of customer service that exceeds our patrons' expectations.

START DATE: October 2025

RATE OF PAY: $17 per hour plus 4% vacation pay. (Plus gratuities - Minimum three-week closure (unpaid) over Christmas)

DUTIES: Duties include all aspects of "hands on" retail management. You will be the front-line manager presence in our Perkins Bistro located in the AXE Bar. You will bring enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit to the position along with a strong passion to renew and grow our services. In this role, you will provide leadership support to a team of part time student staff, maximizing productivity and ensuring exemplary customer service. You will be involved in the recruitment, training, and ongoing development of the retail services team. Working closely with the AXE Bar Manager, you will monitor our financial targets and ensure they are being met. This includes monitoring stock levels and sales as outlined in the operating budget. You will address customer feedback and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction including keeping the bistro in "ready for business" condition. You will ensure the safety of our staff and report any deficiencies to the manager. Food preparation and handling are a common function performed in this role. Administrative duties will include and maintaining various tracking spreadsheets and working independently or with student staff.

TRAINING: Consists of a mandatory training session at the start of the contract.

PREREQUISITES: Proven supervisory experience in a retail services setting; ideally in food and beverage, with a sound knowledge of retail management best practices. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience in working with student staff is desirable. Up to date Food Safety Certification considered an asset. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office is beneficial. The shifts are primarily weekday mornings from 7:30 to 2:30pm, however the hours are flexible.

HOURS: Approx. 35 hours a week.

General Responsibility



The Perkin's Supervisor works in tandem with the AXE Bar Manager to identify, support and implement operational goals. They will liaise with a team of student staff, our customer base and various suppliers/vendors ensuring that operations run seamlessly. They will often work independently as well.

Specific Duties



All aspects of customer service. Engaging and interacting with customers in a friendly manner.

Maintaining clean and safe working conditions (including Food Safety Standards).

Assist with training, and coaching of staff.

Working with a Point of Sale System.

Food Preparation/procurement.

Be the front face of Retail Services in the eyes of our customers.

Inventory Control (procurement, product rotation, pricing and signage, taking stock, replenishment, shrink management).

Liaise with suppliers, customers, service providers and key stake holders.

Sales and merchandising (food and beverage etc.).

Recognize and share potential opportunities for growth.

Catering - Taking orders, food and beverage preparation. Venue set-up and event services.

Cleaning. Keeping all spaces clean and in ready for business condition. (Image and standards)

Report any health and safety concerns to the manager. Risk Management.

Keeping tracking up to date (sales, temperature logs, production sheets, etc.)

Communication with fellow team members.

Resolve issues as they arise (customer complaints, supply chain issues, customer requests)

Authorized key holder for the AXE Bar.

Recognize and develop top performers.

Complete tasks and reports in a timely manner.

Other related duties.

Requirements:



Background in retail services with proven experience at a supervisory level considered an asset.

Knowledge of Retail Management "best practices".

A self-motivated individual who can work independently.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent organization and leadership skills.

Ability to act quickly and resolve problems in an efficient manner.

Sales experience.

A strong comfort level when it comes to food service (kitchen savvy a must).

Food Handler's Safety Certificate an asset.

The ability to stand for long periods and in warm conditions (kitchen setting)
