The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range: $59,180 - $66,608 starting salary determined by the PEA .

Performance range: starting salary to max of $77,666 is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

The Vice President Research (VPR) portfolio includes the Office of the Vice-President Research (OVPR), Office of Research Services, Animal Care Services, Research Partnerships and Knowledge Mobilization Unit, and responsibility for the University of Victoria (UVic) research centres and research entities. The OVPR provides guidance for UVic\'s research agenda at the institutional level, including setting strategic research priorities and developing initiatives to support research to ensure that UVic research continues to grow and prosper. The OVPR staff support the VPR, Associate Vice-Presidents Research and all of the activities of the portfolio to accomplish the missions and goals set out in the University\'s Strategic Framework and individual unit plans.

A UVic strategic priority is to nurture its culture of excellence in research, scholarship, and creative endeavours. External Award opportunities are pursued at the local, national, and international level in order to increase UVic\'s impact and reputation as a leading, innovative, research-intensive university, by identifying prestigious external academic and non-academic award programs, and suitable UVic nominees and nominators for the awards.

The Awards Facilitator identifies, promotes and consults on external award programs and opportunities, encouraging participation, and supporting the identification and nomination of faculty and staff. The Awards Facilitator is responsible for UVic\'s annual internal awards and serves as the secretariat of the President\'s Advisory Committee on External Awards and Honours. As part of the university\'s commitment to ongoing recognition, the Awards Facilitator will ensure that award winners are highlighted and recognized through the university\'s communications tools such as being featured in publications and on the Uvic website.

Job Requirements

This position requires an Bachelor\'s degree and at least 4 years of related experience including working:
  • With external funding sources;
  • With diverse communities;
  • For a post-secondary institution or similarly large and complex public, NGO or research organization.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge requirements:
  • Demonstrated professional-level expertise in research, writing, and editing a range of materials for a variety of purposes and audiences.
  • Knowledge of the post-secondary sector.
Competency requirements:
  • Proven strength in written and oral communications.
  • Proven ability to develop credibility and build effective, sustainable relationships with faculty, staff and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate initiative, creativeness, resourcefulness, and discretion.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently with a variety of people in a complex, decentralized work environment as an integral part of a small team.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Technical skills including web publishing.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, make decisions independently, be self-motivated, and consistently meet deadlines
