Meadowood Manor is a faith based Christian personal care home founded by the Manitoba Baptist Home Society.
Position Overview The successful candidate will have at least two years’ experience working with an elderly population within a day program or personal care home. Responsibilities will include planning and implementing recreation programs designed to optimize the social, mental, emotional, physical and spiritual needs; utilizing the facility and community resources as required. Assesses residents and actively contributes at team conferences. Promotes quality of life to residents in accordance with Meadowood Manor Mission Statement, Philosophy, Goals and Objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Graduate
  • RRC Certificate “Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults” or equivalent or Degree in Recreation.
  • Related experience in long term care and / or working with disabled or physically challenged individuals would be an asset.
  • Ability to plan, organize work and coordinate programs and work independently and as a Team member.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills an asset.
Physical ability to tolerate constant standing, walking, portering, bending and lifting
  • Requires the ability to be creative, have initiative, and possess a good imagination.
  • CPR, First Aid and Food Serving Certificates are an asset.

DUTIES
  • Develop the monthly activity calendar.
  • Track statistics for program attendance, cancellations, and issues which arise.
  • Report quarterly statistics at the Continuous Quality Improvement meetings.
  • Book entertainment and plan special events in with assistance from recreation staff.
  • Assesses individual residents, records in the resident’s chart, updates team regarding resident attendance at groups, porters/arranges portering residents to Recreation programs.
  • Attends and contributes to Resident Care Team Conferences and Care Plan Review meetings.
  • Assists Recreation Manager with planning, preparing, implementing and evaluating both on unit and large programs for residents.
  • Works with residents and staff in planning, developing and scheduling Recreation programs to meet the needs, interests and abilities of our residents.
  • Prioritizes work around resident care activities and assists with meals.
  • Assures all Residents are aware of daily Recreation plans.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding information about residents according to the Personal Health Information Act.
  • Documents clear and concise notes on a regular basis according to standards.
  • Completes Residents Recreation Assessments 3-6 weeks following admission and review assessments every three months. Complete annual assessments.
  • Performs any other related duties assigned by Recreation Manager.
  • On a rotating basis participates in evening and weekend shifts as well as outings.
  • Assist residents with their toilet routine while on outings (one person assist only).
  • Prepares food and refreshments and assists with serving.
  • Completes 1-1 visits with Residents.
  • Support and supervise volunteers assigned to the Recreation Department. Provide orientation, training and specialized feeding and swallowing training to volunteers as appropriate.
  • Maintain attendance sheets for all programs.
  • Completes weekly cleaning routines and maintains facility pet care (bird).
  • Maintain equipment, prepare material, monitor supplies and prepare recreational areas on the floors or in other environments and clean up after program.
  • Participate in continuing education through seminars, workshops and in-services related to Recreation programs in long term care recognizing special populations, i.e.
1.) Disabilities 2.) Cognitive impaired.
  • Attends mandatory inservices, seminars, courses etc. as required and determined by management including but not limited to:
  • Orientation
  • WHMIS
  • Workplace Safety & Health
  • PHIA
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Department specific inservices etc.
  • Inservices etc. mandated by WRHA or legislation/regulation.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Immunization Records as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
