The AVP IT Data and Change supports the VP, Enterprise Risk through reviewing, challenging and catalyzing improvements to the management/mitigation of risk within Aviva Canada.

The Enterprise Risk team assesses the full spectrum of risks and combined impact of those risks as an aggregated risk portfolio, is responsible for the review and challenge of the business\xe2\x80\x99s assessment of these risks and provides business leaders with Risk\xe2\x80\x99s independent opinion of risk exposures, risk profile and actions which should be taken to manage and mitigate risks. A key role of the Risk team is to help management understand the risk the organization is taking and why it is taking these risks.

The Enterprise Risk team also has responsibility for putting in place the necessary mechanisms to ensure that the risk appetite and framework are aligned with the strategy and are used in decision-making across the business. The AVP IT Data and Change will also support the VP, Enterprise Risk and CRO in ensuring that Aviva Canada operates within the approved risk appetite framework and that the appropriate culture, governance, and oversight arrangements are in place to effectively manage the risks to achievement of Aviva Canada\xe2\x80\x99s objectives.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do:

The AVP IT Data and Change Risk will focus on one or more of the main areas of accountability below

Working with the VP, Enterprise Risk, influence the effective management of key risks and embedding of risk culture in relation to Information Technology including Security and Architecture, Data Governance, Data Science and Management of Change in Aviva.

Provide specialist insight and analysis of the IT Data and Change risk profile and risk appetites monitoring through the review and challenge of reports and analysis performed by the first line of defense.

Carry out thematic reviews of current and emerging risks, including liaising with Group Risk on reviews and issue management

Identification and assessment of emerging risks and support business leaders in identifying appropriate management and mitigation of emerging exposures.

Support local or global initiatives from a risk perspective.

Represent the Risk team on management committees

Risk Strategy and Implementation

Be the trusted business partner for the IT and Data teams, understanding their objectives and using their business plan to develop the IT Data and Change Risk annual plan

Strategically prioritize and resource the IT Data and Change plan

Understand the full Aviva business plan and work with the risk team to ensure IT Risk plan is aligned to support the overall business plan

Deliver to the corporate standards for effective, appropriately risk-based policies, procedures and methodologies in support of the risk and governance framework.

Ensure there is reliable and appropriate risk management information across the business unit and the risk community.

Leadership

Proactively and continuously engage senior stakeholders

Recognized as an independent and robust challenger by those in Canada, but also as a source of advice for solutions/improvements in IT and in the Risk team

Promote a continuous improvement culture where lessons learned are shared across the risk function locally and globally.

Work with colleagues across the business to share risk knowledge and expertise which supports business needs, developing an environment of \'no surprises\' through open and transparent two-way communication.

People Management

Deliver effective performance to ensure achievement of risk outcomes

Direct the work and coach collaborators on opinions and other pieces of work

Provide valuable and timely feedback on collaborators of the work delivered in the IT Data and Change Risk portfolio.

Work with the IT Data and Change team as well as with the full Risk team to deliver the risk strategy and objectives

IT Data and Change Risk

Oversee, review, and challenge the IT Data and Change risk management and risk appetite framework, ensuring consistency with Group requirements.

Escalating breaches in risk appetite / limits and material issues and providing business leaders with Risk\xe2\x80\x99s independent opinion of the risk profile and actions which should be taken to manage and mitigate risks.

Produce IT Data and Change Risk opinions and other related matters to key Board and Management Committees. This includes input into CRO Reports to the Board Risk Committee and Board Governance, Conduct and Compliance Committee.

Risk review and challenge of all aspects of IT and Data risk to support management in their understanding, assessment and management of risk to help ensure Aviva Canada achieves its business plan and objectives. IT risk includes, but not limited to, risks arising from security (including cyber), infrastructure, applications, architecture, projects and programmes, business continuity, disaster recovery and operational resilience. Change risk includes, but is not limited to the change portfolio in IT and the Business, and Data risk includes but is not limited to Data Governance and Data Science

Work closely with the Risk Compliance Lead for Data Privacy to ensure alignment between Data Governance and Data Privacy.

Oversight of methodology of relevant business standards and provide regular challenge and review to assumptions and outputs.

Review and challenge of Aviva Canada\xe2\x80\x99s contingency planning for critical business activities (including stress and scenario testing, BCP and DR), ensuring consistency with Group requirements and making recommendations for enhancements.

Pro-actively providing oversight of aggregated risk profile monitoring through the review and challenge of risk profile / trends and the identification of material changes in risk profile and emerging risks.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll bring:

Diploma or degree in Engineering or Computer Science, Finance or other related field or equivalent experience.

IT, Data management, Cloud, Cyber security qualifications or equivalent.

A graduate degree (e.g. MBA) will be considered an asset.

Risk Management Experience will be considered an asset.

Solid negotiation and relationship management skills.

Broad awareness of regulatory/ accounting regimes and local business environment in Canada

Eight to ten years of experience in property/casualty insurance or related industry with progressively professional experience.

Experience of operating at senior manager level and of influencing senior management and other stakeholders
