Discover how you can make a difference in the lives of individuals, families and communities around the world. : The AVP, HR Business Partner is responsible for people and talent strategies for a number of the Corporate functions including: Actuarial, Risk, Asset Liability Management, Sustainability, Global Marketing, Corporate Communications, Internal Audit and other Corporate groups. The role will be a trusted partner in a portfolio which include over 35 Executives and 650+ employees. The groups include some that are highly matrixed and others with a more substantial change/transformation agenda. The role reports to the Vice-President, Corporate HR and Employee Relations. What will you do:

  • Contributes to business strategy development with Executive leadership teams and develops people strategies, actions and outcomes.
  • Partners directly with Executives to provide coaching, consulting, solutions and challenge, where appropriate.
  • Provides proactive advice using data, insights and analytics to inform business and talent decision making.
  • Defines and executes complex and strategic people initiatives. Advances the talent and culture strategy which may include transformation, change management, organizational effectiveness and strategic workforce planning.
  • Utilizes strong judgment and discretion in complex and confidential situations, considering all perspectives and impacts.
  • Builds knowledge of HR, technology and industry trends to advance employee capability, develop and attract talent for the future.
  • Engages and co-creates solutions with HR colleagues (Centres of Expertise, People Services and HRBPs) to solve business issues and optimize the employee experience.
  • Guides/manages Executive talent searches, in partnership with internal or external partners. Oversees program management and delivery of key HR initiatives and programs including Talent, Succession, Engagement, myPay and myPerformance.
  • Provides leadership and coaching to Director, HR Business Partner on employee/leader related matters.
  • May lead or sponsor cross-Corporate programs and initiatives.
What do you need to succeed:
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, problem solving and consulting capabilities. Has a strong growth mindset with a willingness to challenge the status quo and try new things.
  • Effective at building and navigating relationships fluidly across the matrix of Corporate functions and Businesses.
  • Ability understand different perspectives across HR, Senior Executives and Sun Life. Builds strong connections and partnerships within the HR team to design solutions deliver programs.
  • Confidence in communicating, influencing and coaching employees and leaders at all levels.
  • Ability to adapt and pivot through ambiguity and change.
  • Broad understanding of HR programs and connection to employee outcomes.
  • Possesses an open and curious mindset on use of technology, change management, agile methods and data to advance the HR function and employee experience.
  • Over 15 years of progressive experience including experience at AVP level leading and coaching SVP/senior leaders.
  • Experience with transformation would be an asset
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
