OVERVIEW:



We are seeking an

Automation Technician

to join our team. The Automation Technician is responsible for improving the reliability and reduction of downtime of existing machinery and processes and will program and support the implementation of automation projects for the facility to improve safety, quality, efficiency and costs. This role will report to the Maintenance Manager and will be

scheduled to work across the three production shifts on a rotational basis.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Troubleshoot and edit PLC and HMI Programs

2. Program and troubleshoot visions systems, laser printers, scanners and sensors

3. Rebuild and maintain EOAT's and other mechanical systems related to automation

4. Install program into the machine and troubleshoot IO, communications, machine function errors and faults that occur within the program

5. Develop, edit and troubleshoot functional programs for Fanuc and ABB robots to implement changes or new scope of work

6. Execute the refurbishment of existing equipment for new programs, update electrical and controls

7. Aid in the assembly or installation of electrical wiring

8. Identify inefficiencies within the process of existing equipment, develop and implement improvements

9. Work with suppliers, maintenance and production to solve problems with existing equipment and programs

10. Provide accurate documentation for each project including electrical drawings programming labels, operation information

11. Work with members of the maintenance and engineering department to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology to enhance safety and functionality and reduce costs

12. Communicate and document changes made to programs

13. Identify, troubleshoot and develop solutions to mechanical, electrical and programming issues

14. Identify areas of concern that affect the functional requirements and implement improvements, resolve and overcome problems and risks

15. Prepare and execute team member training for Technicians and Maintenance

16. Mentor and train junior employees in their role and company Policies

17. Integrate new systems into existing processes (sensors, robot, handling, laser printer etc.)

18. Successful candidate will be required to travel less than 10% of their time annually

19. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

1. A Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics or relevant experience

2. Background in robotic controls, machine controls design, programming

3. Experience in programming of Fanuc, ABB robots

4. Working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC & HMI Programming

5. Understanding of Ontario Electrical Code and electrical circuits is an asset

6. Knowledge and understanding of CSA and UL Electrical requirements is an asset

7. Knowledge of Auto-Cad Electrical

8. Must be willing to work "hands on" in the manufacturing area
