In this role, you will perform skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of vehicles, restoring damaged vehicles to their original structural integrity, function, and appearance. You will use hand tools and power tools to remove or repair damaged parts, weld as needed, and properly install new parts. Working with a variety of metals and plastics, as well as glass, electrical, and mechanical parts, you will ensure repairs are correct for safe performance, especially in subsequent collisions. You will effectively collaborate with the paint department to achieve efficient vehicle flow in a modern shop equipped with the latest tools.
Key Responsibilities
Review damage reports, repair orders, and estimates of repair cost; plan work to be performed.
Manage work assignments to achieve targets set by the Production and Parts Efficiency Manager.
Repair and replace front-end components, body components, doors, frame, and underbody components as per manufacturer's specifications.
Hammer out dents, buckles, and other defects using blocks and hammers.
Operate soldering equipment or use plastic filler to fill holes, dents, and seams.
Remove damaged fenders, panels, and grills using wrenches and cutting torch; bolt or weld replacement parts into place.
Straighten bent frames using frame and underbody pulling and anchoring equipment.
File, grind, and sand repaired body surfaces using hand and power tools.
Mask and tape auto body surfaces in preparation for painting.
Repair and replace glass components such as windshields, windows, and sunroofs.
Repair or replace interior components, such as seat frame assembly, carpets, and floorboard insulation.
Inspect repaired vehicles and test drive for proper handling.
Install new and added-on equipment.
Conduct first-, second-, and third-line repairs and modifications on vehicles.
Monitor parts usage and report on any materials issues.
Assist in ordering replacement equipment, parts, and supplies.
Accurately complete work orders and time cards.
Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure achievement of quality standards in restoration and repair to reduce re-work and warranty claims.
Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations.
Qualifications
3+ years of hands-on experience as a Body Technician in an automotive repair shop.
Proficiency with tools such as MIG welders, plasma cutters, frame machines, body fillers, soldering equipment, and pulling/anchoring tools.
Knowledge of vehicle construction, safety regulations, and collision repair techniques (I-CAR certification is a plus).
Ability to read and interpret repair diagrams, work orders, and manufacturer specifications.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a standing position for extended periods.
