As an Auto Body Appraiser, you will appraise and report damage to City-owned vehicles and equipment resulting from collisions or catastrophic events (for example: hail, flood and windstorms). You will provide estimates on miscellaneous auto body work and work with 3rd party Appraisers. Primary duties include:Work with the assigned 3rd party appraiser to review preliminary documentation and verify the accuracy of the damage. Appraise ambulances for Alberta Health Services by visually observing the damage to determine whether the damage is surface or internal or both. Collect vehicle specific information from a variety of sources and source parts, enter information into Mitchell Estimator for an initial appraisal on the damage and estimated costs of repairs. If required, recommend to the supervisor that the unit be written off. Appraise general maintenance repairs and review all appraisals coming in from Claims 3rd party appraisal contractors. Work with the inventory group to research and order parts required for repairs. Complete a supplemental appraisal with photographs, extra work and parts for any damage found by the Auto Body Technician not detected in the initial appraisal. Gain permission for extra work on appraisals done by 3rd party appraisers. Coordinate and approve work that is completed by any approved vendors for work being outsourced due to lack of shop capacity. Perform a final review file of completed work to ensure accuracy during the appraisal process and ensure all expenses are correctly documented. Seek clarification on discrepancies between the actual cost and appraised cost. Ensure The City's interests are protected, unit values are maintained and the process is transparent. Provide information related to the appraisal in the case of litigation.


Qualifications

A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED) supplemented by completed course work in collision training and vehicle appraisal and at least 5 years of experience appraising vehicles and equipment and using the Mitchell Estimator programs; OR A Red Seal Journeyperson certificate as a Refinisher, Repair and/or full Red Seal Journeyperson Auto Body Technician and at least 3 years of experience appraising vehicles and equipment using the Mitchell Estimator programs. A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending. Strong communication, negotiation, research, and customer service skills. A high attention to detail and the ability to work as a part of a team.

Working Conditions:

This position spends approximately 30% of the time outside performing duties such as conducting visual inspections of vehicle damage and in the shop discussing repairs and costs with Shop Foremen and Auto Body Technicians.

Pre-employment Requirements

Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
