The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation is the premier choice for advanced study in the art and science of human movement. Position Summary

The position profile is the ATS Teaching Professor Profile in the KSR Standards, however specific to the In Field and Experiential Learning Lead role, it will focus on providing pedagogical and administrative leadership regarding experiential learning in KSR. The role will include administrative (? 70%) and teaching (? 30%) duties for the first two years. Workload percentages may be shifted through negotiation with the Dean following year 2.

Key Responsibilities of the In Field and Experiential Learning Lead Role - Working closely with the Associate Dean Undergraduate and Reporting to the Manager, Academic Programs administratively, this position will be responsible for developing and facilitating practicum and in field learning placements for KSR undergraduate students in our three Kinesiology degrees and our Bachelor of Arts in Recreation, Sport and Tourism degree. They will also work to develop KSR capacity and best practices regarding experiential learning through presentations and other resource provision to instructional staff. They will build relationships with community organizations and liaise with both the University of Alberta and College of Health Sciences experiential learning support staff. Reporting to the Dean or Dean\'s Delegate regarding teaching duties, this position will involve teaching courses in the KSR undergraduate program, including but not limited to the practicum seminar and the foundational course in our in field learning course series. This position will play a leadership role in developing, expanding, updating and maintaining our in field learning curriculum including navigating changes through university governance.

Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and guide through governance (working closely with our Associate Dean Undergraduate and Manager Academic Programs) our new in field learning suite of courses; additional course development or revision as required as it pertains to the practicum, in field learning or experiential learning;
  • Participation in curriculum review and preparation of cyclic program review and accreditation review documents;
  • Administration of in field learning placements including:
  • generating and maintaining relationships with community partners to secure placements;
  • administering and supervising student progress in these placements;
  • supporting in-field learning course instructors.
  • Administration of the completion of KSR\'s current practicum placement program for continuing students;
  • Supports and advises students in navigating conflicts and troubleshoots issues that arise during program participation;
  • Main point of contact for students and partner organizations related to in field learning and the practicum;
  • Work collaboratively to ensure student success and liaise between the KSR Student Service Office, and University of Alberta units including the College of Health Sciences, Office of Education, the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Career Center and Community Service-Learning Program;
  • Follow U of A and KSR policies and procedures in regards to monitoring student academic progress in meeting practicum and in field learning requirements;
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by the Associate Dean Undergraduate or the Manager Academic Programs;
  • Teach courses as assigned in the KSR undergraduate program;
  • Participate in relevant discussion with the KSR Undergraduate Programs Committee;
  • Attend Faculty Council and Academic council.
Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • PhD in Kinesiology, Sport, Recreation, Tourism or related area
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the post-secondary level
  • Proven success in building strong collaborative relationships inside and outside of the University, including building strong relationships with placement organizations
  • Experience developing and delivering experiential learning opportunities
  • Experience developing and/or delivering professional development programming
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Non-academic work experience as a professional in kinesiology, health science, sports recreation and/or tourism considered an asset
  • A commitment to learner-centered innovative teaching and learning practices, and continuous quality improvement
  • Committed to the creation to the creation of safe and supportive learning and working environments, including knowledge of and commitment to KSR and U of A equity, diversity and inclusivity (EDI) policies and practices
  • Ability to collaborate and engage in shared decision making within a team
  • Demonstrated accountability and responsibility for carrying out duties and activities assigned and/or agreed upon
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
