Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next Athletic Therapist \xe2\x80\x93 Lead The Athletic Therapist - Lead, under the direction of Director of Athletics and Recreation develops, organizes and implements the day to day athletic therapy operations of the Mohawk College Athletic Department. This includes, but is not limited to; health education, prevention, immediate care, assessment and rehabilitation of patient\xe2\x80\x99s sport related injuries (varsity athletes, staff), coordination of day to day clinic operations, and to provide an exceptional learning experience for Athletic Therapy placement students. Responsibilities: The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Practice & Competition Coverage
  • Provides on-site coverage at practices, competitions and championship games.
  • Respond to and manage injuries, includes: assessing whether an athlete can return to play, must sit out the remainder of the event, and/or must seek further medical attention; providing initial treatment for medical emergencies (e.g. fractures/dislocations, severe blood loss, spinal injuries, shock related to injury, heat illnesses/hypothermia, concussion management, and loss of consciousness and other deteriorating signs and symptoms, etc.) and contacting Emergency Medical Services (ambulance).
  • Perform clinical treatments on athletes.
Guiding & Administrative duties
  • Oversight of assistant athletic therapist as well as placement students from various athletic therapy programs across the province
  • Provides leadership to student therapists on the treatment(s) of varsity athletes
  • Provides an exceptional experiential learning experience
  • Record keeping
  • Scheduling of assistant therapist and student therapists
  • Key lead in working with institutions to secure student athletic therapy placements
  • Record keeping of all medical documentation for student-athletes
  • Administers and reviews collection of pre-season medical data to provide athlete clearance for participation
  • Keeps patient files and documents up to date
  • Manage Athletic therapy clinic including ordering of equipment, supplies, cleanliness
  • Note keeping on all athletic treatments
Professional Development
  • Continued development of best practices in Athletic Therapy portfolio, ensuring that Mohawk Athletics stays ahead of the industry in terms of quality of care and advancing technology
Policies and Procedures
  • Assist in the Athletic Department\xe2\x80\x99s development of Processes and Procedures including but not limited to: Risk Management policy and procedure(s), Emergency Action Plan(s), other college wide health and safety procedures, implementation of OCAA and CCAA specific policies and procedures
  • Supports and acts in accordance to the athletic departments and college\xe2\x80\x99s strategic plans and core values
Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have:
  • Four-year degree in an Athletic Therapy accredited program
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in operating a clinic, preferably at a post-secondary institution.
  • Knowledge of sports that Mohawk offers as part of its high-performance program is considered an asset.
  • Must have passed board certification exam and be a regulated health professional.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
