Job Description


Summary: Analysis, research and development of materials and processing engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for products design, or operations of Landing Gear designs. Typical Roles/Area of Focus

  • Perform duties with the Materials and Process Engineering Team serving as a specialist in the areas chemical processing, heat treating, surface finishing, metallurgical testing, and failure analysis of metallic structures.
  • Consult with Value Stream Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain and Quality as needed.
  • Work with plant sites and/or sub-tier suppliers to troubleshoot processing issues.
  • Perform material and chemical testing and verification tests within the lab.
  • Review and Troubleshoot issues within the supply base.
  • Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to perform root cause investigations of metallic, non-metallic, composite, and polymer materials.
  • Creates and implements common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Analyzes, researches, designs, and develops materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
  • Performs material analyses that include, but are not limited to, failure analysis of components, systems, and subsystems
  • Will review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
  • Applies engineering principles to drive interim and final solutions to technical, operational and quality issues as they relate to production. Implements, develops and maintain product/process improvements.
  • Teams with others in root cause analysis.
  • Utilize continuous improvement tools to participate in process improvements. Collaborate with the Production Team to meet business metrics (Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost).
Primary Responsibilities:
  • With supervision, performs the M&PT roles as described above.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Landing gear materials and processing experience is preferred.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (in Metallurgical engineering, Materials science, chemistry, or Chemical engineering or other related technical field) and less than 2 years prior relevant experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required.
