Alberta Health Services (AHS) is responsible for delivering acute health services to people living in Alberta as well as to some residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. The Stollery Children\'s Hospital is a full-service quarternary care pediatric hospital and centre for complex pediatric care and research. It is the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children and youth in central and northern Alberta. It has among the highest inpatient volumes of any children\'s hospital in Canada and serves a geographical area of over 500,000 km. The Stollery children\'s Hospital is the Western Canada pediatric heart, liver and lung transplant centre accepting referrals from Manitoba through to BC.

The successful applicant will join four academic pediatric hospitalists as well as a dedicated group of general pediatricians with diverse practices that include patient care in providing a full spectrum of inpatient clinical services at the Stollery Children\'s Hospital. In addition to clinical care, the division is active in teaching and administration at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and the division also has active clinical science and educational research programs, collaborating locally, nationally, and internationally.

Responsibilities

This position is a 1.0 full-time equivalent and will comprise approximately 50-70% research, 20-30% clinical and 10-20% time for other academic pursuits with an academic focus on Pediatric Hospital Medicine. The successful applicant should have evidence of an active practice in an academic setting and an active research program with national peer reviewed funding and publications. The focus on Pediatric Hospital Medicine may include, but is not limited to, research excellence, international leadership, or educational excellence. Consequently, advanced degrees supporting an academic focus (e.g., PhD, MBA) would be an asset. Of note, contributions to education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels are expected from all faculty.

Qualifications

Interested applicants must hold an MD and must have completed additional training in Pediatrics and be certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Having completed an advanced degree, further training in Pediatric Inpatient/Academic Medicine and having a proven track record in obtaining competitive grant funding is desirable.
