Lester Communications Inc. is an established and respected B2B publishing company that specializes in connecting trade and professional associations with the people and organizations they need to reach. Be it a print or digital magazine, membership directory, e-newsletter, website or another platform, Lester's team assists its clients with effective messages that also serve to generate successful revenue streams. In addition to its association clients, Lester also publishes a suite of proprietary titles serving different industry markets.We're Looking For: Lester is looking for a full-time associate editor to join its staff. The associate editor reports directly to Lester's managing editor and is responsible for spearheading the various platforms to which they are assigned, including proprietary titles and working with association clients.The Day In, Day Out: The associate editor will be tasked with creating the editorial plan and generating the content in one of Lester's proprietary magazine titles as well as be responsible for the ancillary communications associated with that platform, including social media posting. The position involves research into various industries to determine content appropriate for each audience; note that candidates must be comfortable with craft alcohol production as a subject matter. The associate editor will create an editorial outline for each issue of each magazine and meet with Lester's managing editor and association clients to discuss and finalize. The associate editor will send confirmed article assignments to Lester's slate of freelance writers and may also be required to write articles, as well.Once the editorial content for each magazine edition is collected by the associate editor, the associate editor will copyedit and set up the publication for design. The associate editor will be the main point of contact for Lester's design team and will extensively review and provide feedback for the overall design and layout of each magazine. For association clients, the associate editor will be the liaison between Lester's designers and the association contacts to coordinate the association's desired changes ahead of publication approval and printing.The associate editor will work with Lester's various departments and review and provide feedback for the design and layout of each magazine, as well as discuss growth opportunities for publications.This position may require North American travel a couple times throughout the year, and as such the successful candidate must have a valid passport and be comfortable interacting in a conference environment.Who You Are: The successful candidate will be a relentlessly curious person who enjoys learning more about many industry sectors. Attention to detail, time management and the ability to stay organized are extremely important qualities. A friendly disposition and can-do attitude are necessary to form quality relationships with industry players and Lester's association clients. Lester needs the successful candidate to have at least an intermediate proficiency with social media platforms and a basic understanding of WordPress functionality. Of course, expert editing skills and above average writing skills are also requirements of the position.The Successful Candidate Has (in bullet list form this time):

  • One or more years of previous editing experience (editing experience in a similar environment as described above is an asset, but not a requirement)
  • Meticulous editing skills and above average writing skills
  • Computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel, in particular) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent time management skills
  • A personable disposition and the confidence to interact with all kinds of different people both by email, on the phone and in person when required
  • Decent proficiency with different social media platforms
  • The ability to work independently and the self-reliance to make decisions but also be able to take direction and receive constructive feedback
  • A valid North American passport
  • Any kind of experience working in or around the following industries in any capacity is an asset, but not a requirement: construction, craft alcohol production or snow operations
