Job Summary


Dalhousie Student Affairs takes a collaborative approach to enhancing the overall Dalhousie student experience by creating and sharing innovative ways to engage and connect students through learning, wellness, leadership and careers and community. Reporting to the Assistant Vice-Provost, Campus Living and Student Well-being, and with responsibility to Student and Health Wellness, the Associate Director, Student Support Team leads a case management team providing key non-clinical support for students and consultation and advice to staff and faculty on student behaviour concerns.


Key Responsibilities


Lead and implement an integrated team case management approach on campus to address complex student behaviour concerns, including for matters that may ultimately be resolved through the Student Code of Conduct. Act as the intake coordinator of all referrals through consultation with referral source providing critical and comprehensive assessment of complex concerns about student behaviour. Assign work to Case Managers as appropriate, based on needs assessment and capacity. Coordinate, convene and facilitate case conferences with multidisciplinary teams across campus community to map issues and create case plans. Chair the Behavioural Intervention Team. Act as the intake coordinator of all potential referrals to the team through consultation with referral source, thorough and comprehensive assessment of complex concerns about student behaviour regarding safety and risk of harm to others on campus using a case management approach as outlined above. Provide strategic advice to senior leadership at the university on matters related to student behavioural concerns and complex behaviour scenarios, including crisis response. Act as the lead Response Coordinator resource regarding student death, and serve as the lead resource in the coordination and ongoing skill development of a student death response coordinator team, building capacity for a comprehensive and compassionate response in the event of a student death on or off campus. Coordinate, convene, and facilitate case conferences with multidisciplinary teams across campus community to map issues and create case plans. Supervise team of two Case Managers; ensuring integrated and collaborative approach with partners from Security Services, Student Affairs units, Human Rights and Equity Services, and Legal Counsel, etc.

Required Qualifications


Master's degree in a related field (social work, counselling/psychology, behavioral analysis, conflict resolution) with seven years' progressive leadership experience in a related field (social work, human services, or direct work with youth / community development, etc.) (or an equivalent combination of training and experience). Demonstrated experience with leading people in collaborative problem-solving approaches, including excellent coaching and analytical skills. Proven experience providing crisis intervention services, demonstrated ability to maintain unwavering professionalism and provide composed guidance in emotionally charged situations. Demonstrated experience with leading people in collaborative problem-solving approaches, including excellent coaching and analytical skills. Demonstrated resource and process management. Includes efficiently managing resources (people, funding, materials and space) and processes to achieve organizational objectives. Experienced leader in managing change and innovation. Includes proven ability to assess based on established outcomes, identify systemic needs, and lead change in a continuous improvement environment to move the university ahead and enhance student well-being and public safety.



Assets


Knowledge of the evolutionary process of violence and threat risk assessment models. Experience with a Restorative Approach, including design and facilitation of complex justice processes to respond to and prevent future harm. Experience in assessment, establishing metrics and reporting.
