Compensation Range $8,063.17 - $12,575.08 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

The Associate Director, Alumni Engagement, Lifelong Learning leads the development, implementation, execution, and evaluation of an innovative, university-wide, and highly effective alumni and student engagement program that promote an appreciation for lifelong engagement with and support of UBC and alumni UBC. They will be a strong leader, communicator and collaborator, building deep relationships with senior leadership, faculty, staff and student leaders across both UBC campuses to provide opportunities for alumni and students to engage in strategic, high value and mutually beneficial ways. The successful candidate contributes their career education and student engagement expertise to the development and implementation of comprehensive integrated communications plans and online engagement strategies to deliver lifelong learning opportunities to UBC alumni globally. The incumbent provides high-level expertise and direction to campus stakeholders, based on lifelong learning and student engagement best practice.

Organizational Status
Reports to the Director or Senior Director, Alumni Engagement. The Associate Director, Alumni Engagement will work with DAE colleagues, UBC senior administration, faculty members, staff and students involved in alumni engagement, student engagement, volunteer leadership, student leadership, campus community associations and organizations, as well as other universities and institutions.

Work Performed

Program Management

Sets direction for strategic partnerships, comprehensive programs and content development.

Develops and manages the overarching, comprehensive strategy to engage alumni and students through innovative university wide programs.

Identifies and develops comprehensive plans to integrate or re-build high impact innovative programs and events to increase program impact and align with strategic goals.

Develops and manages the strategy and execution of alumni UBC speaker series events \xe2\x80\x93 online and in person - with a goal of engaging several thousand alumni each year.

Fosters existing relationships and partnerships and develops new relationships with campus partners and stakeholders to leverage strategic opportunities and shared goals in the development of integrated and enhanced programs.

Researches external programs and pedagogical technologies/tools that could enhance the effectiveness of new programming.

Identifies and cultivates relationships with subject matter experts to produce and/or promote workshops, blogs, and webinars and oversees their contributions to ensure quality and timeliness of outputs.

Evaluation - continually refines the portfolio of student and alumni programming and services with an eye for return on investment; ensures engagement goals are met and program deliverables align with alumni UBC s strategic plan.

Provides strategic oversight to the Manager, Employer and Alumni Relations, including identifying partnership opportunities within career education and student engagement strategies wherever possible.

Lifelong Learning

Leads the strategic development, implementation, measurement and assessment of professional development and other career services for alumni to support them in their personal and professional growth.

Plans and develops strategic initiatives, including events, programs, and online engagement tools to meet evolving alumni needs.

Oversees the Manager, Career Education as they lead the coordination, implementation and execution of lifelong learning initiatives designed to support alumni at every stage of their career.

Leverages best practice research and stakeholder feedback in strategy and program development.

Develops and maintains strong relationships with other career practitioners across campus, finding ways to work together and create efficiencies between the various departments.

Integrates established and emerging educational methodologies and tools into program development to incorporate best-in-class content and methodologies in educational initiatives.

Uses lifelong learning and career development expertise to develop and implement marketing strategies and campaigns in partnership with Marketing & Communications colleagues to maximize awareness and participation in the program.

Student Engagement

Develops and oversees strategy for deepening student engagement to foster a better understanding of alumni UBC and to support their transition to alumni.

Oversees the Officer, Student Engagement as they lead the recruitment, coordination, implementation and execution of the Student Ambassador Council (SAC) program; identify and coordinate strategies to connect student council members with alumni and alumni programs; connecting them with appropriate opportunities within the DAE portfolio and campus wide.

Manages and executes current student engagement initiatives, providing best practices to ensure sustainability

Identifies strategies to connect student leaders with alumni and alumni programs; connecting them with appropriate opportunities within the DAE portfolio and campus wide.

Develops and leads programs, services, and communications that contribute to student understanding of the benefits and responsibilities that come with their lifelong relationship with UBC

Builds internal and external relationships with student leadership (AMS, GSS, UBC SUO), student leaders, peers, volunteers, campus partners, as well as with other universities and institutions

Performs other duties as required (especially those related to the planning and execution of special events/and or activities)

Engagement and program activity will necessitate work beyond the typical work day. Flexible work hours will be necessary and travel may be required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Given that the incumbent will liaise regularly with senior administration, prominent alumni and donors as well as significant friends and partners of the university, the Associate Director, Alumni Engagement is expected to exercise judgment, diplomacy and tact in all interactions. Poor judgement could alienate alumni, students and others, damage the university s reputation, as well as negatively impact potential opportunities to engage alumni and students as friends, volunteers, and donors.

Supervision Received
Report directly to the Director or Senior Director, Alumni Engagement. The incumbent works independently according to broad objectives and with discretion relating to policy administration and interpretation, and administrative responsibilities

Supervision Given
Responsible for managing Alumni Engagement Officer, Student Engagement, the Manager, Career Education, and supervising numerous volunteers. Shared supervision of the Manager, Employer and Alumni Engagement with the UBC Careers Office in the VP Students Portfolio. The incumbent may oversee student employees and support staff. As the alumni UBC workforce increases, may also be required to manage support staff accordingly.

Minimum Qualifications

University degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of five years of related job experience including experience in alumni relations, university advancement, career education, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in alumni relations, student engagement, program coordination, management, human resources, strategic planning, and/or university environment.

Certified Coach with an ICF Accredited Program an asset.

Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including a successful track record in partnership development.

Proven ability to develop and operationalize complex, integrated strategies across multiple portfolios.

Superior oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Experience creating and delivering career and work search instructional workshops.

Strong presentation and public speaking skills.

Events management experience an asset.

Ability to effectively manage time and to work well under pressure.

Agility in team environment and working with a wide range of people.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, complex tasks, and to meet deadlines.

Creative and critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, including a drive to find win-win solutions.

Ability to work respectfully, appropriately and effectively with volunteers essential.

Comfort with senior community and university leaders, as well as with prominent alumni.

Proficiency with online communication tools and channels, including current social media practices.

Certification in MBTI, True Colours, StrengthFinder, or other human capital assessment tools is an asset.
