Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Dean, the Associate Director, Finance is responsible for the comprehensive financial management of all Faculty departments and clinics, including oversight of operating, special, endowment, and research funds within the deanery. Working collaboratively with academic, research, and administrative leaders, the role oversees the financial implications of Faculty objectives and ensures decisions are informed by both academic and administrative financial considerations. The Associate Director, Finance, also manages and develops a team of professional and administrative support staff.
Primary Responsibilities:

• Oversee financial planning and budgeting functions for the Faculty and affiliated departments at hospitals, and community clinics including establishing financial priorities and controls, developing the operating budget and monitoring financial performance.
• Implement all internal auditing requirements. Collaborate with and provide guidance to internal and external auditors.
• Oversee and review forecasting and annual reports prepared by the Finance team prior to submission to Financial Services.
• Manage the internal and external reporting of the Faculty's financial activities and ensure that all reporting deadlines are met.

• Provide strategic financial direction to the Dean that will enhance overall financial performance and ensure that constrained financial resources are allocated to the highest academic priorities.
• Develop actions plans; evaluate the financial and staffing impacts of new plans and initiatives, including required expenses and expected net benefits. Oversee reporting and monitoring of organizational performance metrics.
• Develop and implement faculty financial practices and business policies that optimize revenue generation and cost management for community clinics. Serve as the primary financial manager for faculty clinics, ensuring long-term financial sustainability through effective budgeting, financial compliance, performance reporting, and resource planning.
• Manage organizational budgeting process. Provide senior guidance to Faculty financial team and the Dean on issues related to financial management.
• Benchmark and implement market-based strategies to increase the revenue of self-funded programs.
• Collaborate closely with University Advancement to provide transparent and timely financial stewardship reporting for donor-funded activities, including patient care, to ensure accountability and strengthen donor confidence and continued philanthropic support.

• Provide financial oversight for faculty space and building resources, including the main Faculty building and other clinics and buildings (various external clinics, MGH, JGH, MCH, James Lund Clinic, etc.) across Montreal. Ensure costs are planned, monitored, and managed within approved budgets through ongoing variance analysis and financial reporting.
• Develop and implement short- and long-term financial and accounting plans to support the effective delivery of services across the Faculty. Identify alternatives and recommend solutions to respond to evolving operational and financial requirements.
• Represent the Faculty on financial matters in internal and external meetings/committees and serve as the primary liaison with central units and finance counterparts across the University and peer institutions.
• Directly manages a team of professional and clerical employees.

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:
Accounting degree and extensive knowledge and experience of budgeting and financial management and analysis.
Graduate degree in related field and / or finance designation is a strong asset (CPA, CMA or CGA).
5+ years of work experience at a management level in a large academic, public or private institution is a strong asset.
Knowledge of McGill fund types (or other University) including experience working with research grants is a strong asset
Demonstrated ability in creating comprehensive financial statements; preparing reports for financial auditors; working with complex formulas and creating detailed professional reports.
Service-oriented with excellent customer service skills and the ability to establish productive working relationships quickly.
Combines robust managerial leadership and strategic business insight with a consistently empathetic and people?centered leadership approach.
