Job Title Associate Director, Custody Product



What is the opportunity?

The Custody product function is responsible for Global & Domestic custody ("custody'), Global Funds Platform, Primary markets products (ETFs, Loans), Investment Counsellor and Pension Fund solutions and Benefit payments ("Custody Services") within Investor Services ("IS").

In this role, you will initiate and support the overall product strategy, direction and profitability for end-to-end Custody with an initial focus on payments within RBC Investor Services, in alignment with core services' strategic objectives. You will initiate and support designing, developing products to support client retention, target client acquisition, enhance client experience and deliver on commitments made to clients, including drive and oversee execution of approved product change/development. Initiate and support the Product Standards & the operating framework for custody. The focus of the role is around our Canadian Franchise, across the asset manager segment.

What will you do?

  • Proactively involved in the assessment of available market intelligence and stakeholder feedback (clients and functions) on the strategy and evolution of the custody business, including target market, features, product/service experience, regulation and compliance.
  • Support development and maintenance of the suite of end-to-end Custody products focused on delivering NIAT growth through enhancing/digitizing products, generating client value, delivering solutions by geography and platform.
  • Deliver a clear product roadmap in-collaboration with Custody product Executives, Data Management Office, Client Success, Technology, Client Operations and Business Development.
  • Responsible for analysis of product-related change, including commercially-viable and client focused business cases, with prioritization and approval of product, client, operational and regulatory change. Business cases to be managed in-collaboration with Profitability and Protocols.
  • Support design and efficiency of product operating model(s), product standards and technical stack/architecture, with an objective to simplify where possible working with the Product Architect.
  • Conduct analysis to understand the detailed P&L for Custody products and embed financials in driving client, product, execution and functional change on product profitability
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate governance, compliance with policies/frameworks and oversight of issues, risks, audit and compliance items
  • Where appropriate, support client design for non-standard client on-boarding for Custody with Client Experience teams
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  • BA or BSc in business, or other relevant degree
  • 5 years' experience in industry, with a specific focus in Custody Operations, Payments (payment technologies, end-to-end processes), Securities Finance and Global Markets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong ability to analyze, document and articulate complex processes and concepts in a clear and succinct manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work cross-functionally with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Sound technical knowledge of the financial services and asset management industry
  • Extensive experience in developing efficient strategies and business plans for all in-scope products
  • Proven curiosity regarding fintech and evolving investment industry trends
  • Strong corporate knowledge
  • Strong proficiency with collaboration and agile tools (Confluence, JIRA)
Nice-to-have:
  • MBA, post-graduate in business or finance
  • Professional qualifications from a recognized industry body
  • SWIFT experience and/or payment products
