Associate Director, Curriculum, Indigenous Communities & Health
. This pivotal leadership role offers a unique opportunity to directly shape the course of medical education and the next generation of healthcare professionals by developing, implementing, and enhancing a competency-based curriculum deeply rooted in Indigenous knowledge, practices, and health perspectives.

As Associate Director, you'll be instrumental in weaving Indigenous Communities & Health into the fabric of our innovative curriculum, ensuring our graduates are not only clinically excellent but also culturally competent, compassionate, and committed to addressing health inequities.
This role is approved as a 0.2 FTE and the School of Medicine is happy to accommodate working arrangements (hours, location, hybrid/remote work, etc) that are convenient for the successful candidate and allow balancing other commitments.
What You'll Do:
As a subject matter expert and a member of TMU's Clinical Faculty, you'll play a central role in:
Curriculum Leadership:
Oversee the creation, delivery, assessment, and evaluation of the Indigenous Communities & Health curriculum across all years of our undergraduate medical program. You'll ensure seamless integration of Indigenous health learning within cases and various learning modalities, aligning with accreditation standards and evolving medical education needs.
Strategic Development:
Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for Indigenous Communities & Health curricular learning, fostering integration within and between courses and phases of the UGME program.
Innovative Teaching:
Design and support the implementation of cutting-edge teaching methods and materials specific to Indigenous Communities & Health, incorporating new medical research, technologies, and methodologies.
Assessment and Improvement:
Collaborate on the development of assessment items, analyze data to drive curriculum improvements, and work with Learner Affairs and Progress Units to develop accommodation and remediation plans.
Championing EDIA:
Be a driving force in promoting and integrating principles of
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA)
,
anti-racism, decolonization, and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples
into every aspect of curriculum design, content, and delivery. You'll foster an inclusive learning environment and develop initiatives to promote culturally competent healthcare practices.
Collaborative Leadership:
Work closely with a diverse team of curriculum leaders, clinical faculty, and stakeholders to ensure interdisciplinary integration and alignment, and represent the Indigenous Communities & Health curriculum within the university and at relevant conferences.
What You'll Bring:
Completion of a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent (i.e. MBBS).
A deep understanding and commitment to Indigenous health, knowledge systems, and ways of being, knowing and doing.
At least 3 years of experience in Indigenous pedagogy or health education and/or as a member of a School of Medicine clinical faculty, preferably with experience in designing and delivering medical education, including curriculum development and innovation.
Expertise in curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment methodologies within medical education.
Knowledge of competency-based education.
A proven track record of promoting and integrating EDIA, anti-racism, decolonization, and reconciliation principles.
Strong collaborative and leadership skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
