A completed graduate degree in Education or related discipline. A minimum of three years working in a directly related position. A valid driver's license. Must have a clean criminal record check prior to commencement. A combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Major Job Function:



Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean is responsible for working with colleagues to implement the Colleges' Institutional Management Agreement and to uphold the Mission, Vision, and Mandate of the College. The Associate Dean is responsible to support the Dean on matters within the department, and to work with colleagues across the institution to foster a high-quality student experience, as directed by the Dean.


Duties and Responsibilities:



The Associate Dean serves as a representative of, and support to, the Dean. The Associate Dean guides and supports chairs, faculty, and staff in carrying out the mission of the department as formulated by the Dean. The responsibilities of an Associate Dean are decided upon by the Dean, but typically include the following:



Leadership:


Act as a role model for collegiality, collaboration, integrity, and professionalism across the organization Lead a team of employees within the department With the Dean, strategic planning and leadership of the department Ensure mechanisms are in place for quality assurance and technology integration for programs within the portfolio Provide strategic vision and support College strategic goals in department programming decisions Maintain a hospitable climate and culture. Encourage engagement, participation, and collegiality amongst all stakeholders Represent the department, the Dean, and the College on internal and external committees Develop and implement policies, procedures and regulations

Management:


Operations and performance of the department Personnel management Financial planning, management and reporting Liaise with potential and existing partners external to the College and other departments within the college Manage resources including development, redevelopment, evaluation and maintenance With the Dean, articulate the goals of the department and the unit Work with the Dean and other colleagues to ensure the department's goals are consistent with the Institutional Management Agreement Develop, monitor, and report on budgets Conduct regular department meetings; establish department committees as needed; and represent department interests to the Dean Organize and oversee the work of department and program committees as needed Keep faculty members informed of department, program, college, division, and institutional plans and activities Oversee and ensure timely completion of program annual evaluations Provide periodic feedback and coaching to faculty and staff as needed

Faculty / Staff Development:


Plan, support and provide professional development opportunities Manage the Performance Appraisal Cycle for employees within the unit. Listen and communicate effectively with faculty and staff Select and retain outstanding faculty and staff Provide leadership and direction to department /program faculty Identify staff and faculty for awards

Professional Responsibilities:


Continuous learning and improvement in areas of program operations, including adult and distance education, learning technologies, online learning and faculty development/supervision Promote College programs and activities Maintain professional development and currency in leadership and adult and online education.

Student Support Responsibilities:


Maintain open and responsive communication with students Assist with student accommodations, mentorship, tutoring, and retention policies and activities Meet with students and student representatives as needed Participate in the student appeals process as required Encourage faculty and student interaction Support scholarships and awards and identify students for selection

Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Suggested Additional Qualifications:



Five years of post-secondary work experience Five years of supervisory experience Valid teacher qualification in Alberta is an asset Familiarity with K-12 school system in Alberta - specifically Dual Credit models Experience working in the north and rural communities or experience with rural communities, diverse cultures and ethnic groups
